Default What is with this purring feeling???

Recently I feel like I have a purring cat sitting on the right side of my body from the waist down. This feeling is very different from the tingling that I had when first diagnosed. The purring is especially noticeable when it stops and is the strangest thing. My doctor has suggested to start me on neurontin but the side effects seem worse than the annoyance of the purring. Has anyone experienced the purring and what has been your experience with neurontin?

I've been taking Gabapentin (generic Neurontin) for quite a few years and I haven't had any problem with it. Have no experience with the purring feeling though.

I'm usually on the peripheral neuropathy forum and what you're describing sounds like what is described as vibration over there. I get it sometimes on a very small area of my body, sometimes a large area like my entire trunk. For me it usually only lasts a few seconds. From what I understand, neurontin is used for pain rather than other sensations. I haven't tried it yet, but have found doctors seem eager to prescribe it.

Hello Dominique26,

What you are referring to as a purring cat sensations is vibration/buzzing sensations.

I have never used any medication for this symptoms as it is possible to ignore.

I've experienced that in different spots over the years...it feels as if a tuning fork has been placed on my skin.
One of those strange symptoms MS offers us

I've experienced that vibration thing at the base of my spine, and/or down one leg upon occasion. It usually only lasts for a few days and then is absent for a few weeks or months. It doesn't bother me...in fact it feels pleasant in an odd sort of way, which is a nice change from the other stuff that MS brings up .

With love, Erika

Yes, it is something that can be ignored. I'm leaning toward not taking anything. I hope in time, that it will just go away.

I get the vibration thing on my left leg (lower) occasionally, but mainly on my left foot. Sensory symptom for sure, like others I don't medicate for it.

I sometimes get that feeling if I bend my neck to my chest. I get a vibration down my neck and spine, usually when I'm having increased MS symptoms. I figured it was maybe some sort of inflammation. It usually passes and isn't always there.

I always get that vibration in my nether region and in my bladder. I take nothing for it, I just try to ignore it and it comes and goes as it pleases.
