Default On my own

Today I had what will probably be my last MRI. I suspect the MS clinic gets a nice kickback for referring me for the MRI, so they had no problem ordering one for me when I requested one.

I also think I am done with the clinic altogether. The MS specialist (who also has MS) made it clear that when you have secondary progressive MS, they can’t really help you. I guess I am on my own.

But, thinking about it, I’ve pretty much always been on my own with MS. My first complaint to an MD of a classic MS symptom (trifacial nerve pain - Does your face hurt? Well it's killing me! lol) was when I was fourteen years old. Yadda, yadda, yadda, I was diagnosed with MS at age 59. All those years when I could have been taking the MS Disease Modifying Drugs, the “MS experts” were too busy telling me to go on a diet and get some exercise. And I had plenty of exacerbations over the years. I’d complain to my doctor, and they’d tell me it is all in my head, and go on a diet.

Am I bitter? How could I not be?

Yeah, I'm having a bad day. And, yeah, I know it gets better.

Perhaps this post will be read by somebody who is also having a bad day. It'll let them know that they are not alone.

well, i'm not offering to share. i guess that makes me a bad friend, but, i'm a friend non the less. you're not alone when you're here with us marion.

you wouldn't want to share with me anyway, i'm having back surgery next month.

i'm ****** for you for the md neglect you've suffered all these yrs. if anything you're an example to the younger set to advocate for yourself and bring another advocate with you.

the younger set: especially if you're female. don't let the dr tell you it's hormones, it's all in your head or you're depressed. typical things i think when the dr gives up, doesn't know and/or won't take the time to find out. get another dr or press him/her hard.

even tho i'm not spms i'm here to listen marion.
thanks for your post.

BTW, Sal, I love your signature quote by Robert Frost. I remember him, of course, from my literature classes. But I also remember him at the Kennedy inauguration. What a moment – Kennedy and Frost.

Nurse Nancy, all I needed was a doctor to order an MRI. Of course I didn't know it at the time, but my MRI leaves no question. I have had MS for a long time.

Could it be that they thought I was lying? I'd say "for two weeks I couldn't walk. I would have come in sooner but, well, I couldn't walk". His answer? "You seem to walk just fine now".

Do I, per chance, have the word "liar" tattooed on my forehead? It wasn't just one or two doctors that were dismissive. This went on for decades. I finally stopped complaining because it is embarrassing to have it insinuated that I was faking.

"You seem to walk just fine now."

I know, right? HELLO! It's called REMITTING-RELAPSING for a reason, you douchecanoe! This is the same type of thing that I ran into with the MS specialist at Mayo. Just because I wasn't exhibiting massive symptoms right at that moment, he completely dismissed me. Well, karma's a b****, and I hope she comes back and bites those kind of drs where it hurts the most!
