Default Hove-a-round

Does anyone else want to gag while watching their upbeat unrealistic commercials?

I mean, it's like, all you have to do is get a hovearound(sp) and you are imediately free to roam the hills and valleys, the grand canyon and beyond.

You don't need any ramps, lifts, helpers, transportation vans, drivers....nothing...just a hovearound. You, all at once, have many hovearound friends to roustabout with.....places to go and things to do...WoooooHoooooo!!!

Gag...Gag.....Gag.

LMAO!!!!! SAL! That is sooo true! I love how they only show the thing moving around outdoors or in wide-open homes with extra-wide doorways. It's so stupid, they never show anyone exiting a home, trying to manage their belongings, getting the door closed, navigating ramps or uneven terrain, etc. That thing is a piece of junk.

I feel so badly for people who get sucked into those ads. They aren't selling mobility, they're selling a mortgage. A couple years ago, my elderly neighbor called me out of the blue and she was upset & whispering into the phone. I asked what was wrong and she said she was hiding in her bathroom to call me and asked me to come over and make the Hoverround salesman go away!

She had called about their "free in-home test drive" and had basically set herself up for an ambush. She told him that it wasn't what she wanted and the guy would not leave for over 4 hours. I kicked him out and threatened to call the police and file harrassment charges. The little moron had the audacity to ask me if I was interested in one!

Yes, they are irritating. My DF was on a streak where he mentioned these commercials every time we talked, going so far as to repeat the telephone number for me over and over and over. It got to where I wanted to scream. I kept telling him that I can't use something like that because we don't have a ramp, we have a car and not a van, etc. Finally, he quit mentioning it.

Cindy, I feel so bad for your poor neighbor. I'm glad you could come to her rescue!

I could never figure out what those two old ladies were yelling while sitting in front of the grand canyon. 42 commercials later... I finally figured it out. I am thankful for the hoverround company - they are the only thing that got my mom to finally buy a wheelchair. I threatened to sick the hoverround sales rep on her and she got a Jazzy. She loved that thing right from the start. She's getting ready to upgrade to a different type of chair and - this time she's going with a pink one!

What do they say, Gret? Something like, "LOL! Our kids will be making payments on these things looooong after we've rotted! LOL!!"?

or

"What were we thinking?!?! You be Thelma and I'll be Louise."?

Is it just me or does anyone else think that they should have had a disclaimer on the bottom of the screen when they first ran the commercial that had the elderly ladies at the side of the Grand Canyon?

You guys are a bunch of cashews

I've got a three-wheel scooter (Pride Victory). Piece of junk. Spent the first 12 months and over $1500 worth of insurance-covered repairs to get the dang thing working.

What I noticed -- I use paratransit to get around -- is that this thing is not set up to be transported. There's hooks in the front that are stable. But, there's nothing in the back. They hook on the lower part of my armrests. They've stripped 'em once. The armrests have loosened up already and it's only been a few months since they were replaced.

The paratransit driver was telling me that these things aren't made for transporting.

When I look at the Hoverround, that's what I think of. It looks cheap. I'd love to have something with a tighter turning radius -- especially when I get onto the elevator here. But, in terms of being able to transport the thing on paratransit, I can just tell, it would fall apart in no time.

I think they should make the people that sell these things spend 6 months using one to see what kinds of problems people really run into.

I'm still laughing about the satellite-signaling headlight that they call a 'headlight' on my scooter. Doesn't light the ground at all. I had to strap flashlights on the bottom of my basket so I could go out at night.

Barb

PS: I would love to be able to "hover" over those non-existent curb-cuts. I'm really tempted to lug along a piece of 2x4 so I can sort of slalom over the dang things
