I just had blood work done for my thyroid and asked if they would check my Vitamin D levels, too. I haven't gotten the results back yet but when I do I'll post them here!

Thought you guys might want to see this: http://multiplesclerosisnewstoday.co...get-new-study/ if you haven't already.
My level was about 30, and I got it up to 77 by taking 10,000 IU a day for about 8 months. I don't think that article I linked to said so, but I've read elsewhere that you want to get your level up to something close to 100 but not over. And anything under 30 is too low. Where's mrsD? I'd have thought that she'd be all over this thread--she's all about the D! :sunchair: |
Got my test results back and my D level is 85. Doctor said that was good.
My thyroid med (Nature Thyroid) has been doubled! I now take two 97.5 mg tablets first thing in the morning. |
Hi there Joan...
The MS doctors try to get their MS patients to a value of 100. But as with all medical things, this may change, so be alert to that. For nonMS folks 50 is considered the new goal. My doctor wanted me at 70, but I never made that milestone. I use 5000 IU D3 daily. Except for summer when I get tanned up. Last summer I didn't get out much, so I took the 5000 the whole year 2015. |

I was D deficient and after a year and a half got it up to 65 or 70 using 5000iu. At that point my Neurologist said to drop my dosage down to 2000iu, within 6 months my D level dropped to 19. I have tried 3000iu then 4000iu and now 5000iu and so far my D level is not going above 27. I have only been at the 5000iu for approximately 3 months so I am hoping when it's rechecked it will have increased. We shall see  |
Kitty, so you are taking just under 200mg NT? I'm taking 135mg of NT or NP Thyroid which is SO MUCH like the original armour I started with in 2002. NP is now considered the generic for Armour and much less $$$ and they produce it in GA. Armour has gone up in price so much since the company changed owners and they changed the formulation over the years and I didn't like it. I chew my NT or NP.
I felt best at 80 on the Vit D I remember that time and then the hip job and it dropped 40 pts so I've been working my way up over the years since surgery. I know the surgery took a lot out of me and created more pain overall. How are you doing and feeling MS-wise? K2 is supposedly important for best D3 absorption. I take both. I need to get new labs on a couple things in the spring as I didn't do labs last year at my annual. |
