Default eyes

I don't know what is going on with my eyes. A couple of days ago i 'saw' hair in my eyes and was continually trying to push it away. My hair isn't even long enough to be down in my eyes. Yesterday when I woke up I noticed when I was looking at a white surface like a computer screen that I had 'black snow or what I call dirt'. I only saw it when looking at a white surface. Well today it is all the time. At Walmart I could really tell a difference in my vision. Just in the house with my TV not far from me or anything I needed not far it was OK. But in a big building I could tell it was a big difference. I have an appointment tomorrow afternoon. My eyes don't hurt at all so I don't think it would be optic neuritis. Oh course I don't know if you can have optic neuritis that doesn't hurt. The last time I had it it really hurt. I am diabetic. As a nurse I also know about retina problems. When I put my hand over my right eye, my left eye is pretty crappy, I mean really crappy but that is nothing new. My right eye has always been the strongest. But when I put my hand over my left eye, I can still see fairly well but that is where the dirt is. Great. My family Christmas is at my house this Saturday. 33 people. We are having the dinner some where else at a fellowship hall so no one is hosting it. I won't feel like I have to get up and refill anything or get something out of the fridge. We all pitch in. But the opening of gifts is to personal to be at an impersonal fellowship hall. Besides, we want people to stick around instead of going back o their hotels for the rest of the day.

I have an appointment tomorrow at 2. But it is New Years weekend and I have no idea what can be done about anything.

It could be floaters. I had some appear suddenly in one eye many years ago. Drove me crazy as I thought there were small bugs flying in front of my face. Still have them, but I've managed to ignore them for the most part.

I notice floaters more in sunny weather or like you, when looking at white or light surfaces. Annoying but harmless. Floaters shouldn't change your actual vision; they're just annoying. I've heard they're more common as we age....

Hopefully that's all it is, but good that you have an appointment - you'll know for sure then.

That's what I thought of first.....floaters.

I get them all the time and I'm constantly brushing away things that aren't there. They're not harmful....just annoying.

I'd still let your Neuro know so he can document your medical records.

just FYI about "floaters"

Someone posted this short video about floaters in the TBI/PCS forum recently. It's really well done. I'm just posting in case it's of interest to you all.

I've had floaters but also had that hair over my face thingy....separately!

All gone now. Don't know what caused it? It was all after my big fall and hospitalization.

Still have eye problems but fixable.

i just developed that in 1 eye. the dr said it's a floater. i see a black speck and have the feeling of having to brush a hair away from my eye.

have you ever had cataract surgery? i had a big difference in vision and it turned out to be a cataract.

please tell us what the dr says.

Yes, I have had cataracts removed form both eyes with lense implants. My yearly check ups, well except last year which I missed, have showed my left eye getting worse each year and he suspected I would need laser on that cataract bed. Now I really, really need it. But it's the right eye that is the problem. I have posterior vitreous detachment. So the vitreous has kind of all leaked out which is causing me to see it as floaters. And believe me it is driving me crazy. All sorts of weird things floating around in my eye. And then there is the 'dirt'. He said the surgeon can suck all that vitreous out and replace it. If that doesn't work then it is a more extensive surgery that I don't even want to think about. I remember it all to well from my nursing years and I guess it hasn't changed much. Office is supposed to call me tomorrow with an appointment for the specialist to examine my eyes.
