Default Left side numb

So I am at 2 years out from my diagnosis of MS. It started with double vision. I got the help I needed for my double vision with Solu-Medrol but it didn't help the numbness. So I have numbness my entire left side from head to toe. With this I have pain also. Some days it's ok but must it just not the best and nothing help.
So I am asking if anyone found relief with numbness and pain.
Thank you for reading.

Welcome to NeuroTalk!

Double vision got me my MS diagnosis, too. I also have had a numb right hand for several years.

It's hard to explain how something that's numb is also painful. I have tried keeping my right hand and arm warm. It helps sometimes.....other times it doesn't. I really do't know of any treatment or remedy for numbness pain.

Has your Neurologist suggested anything? My numbness has gotten better over the years but when I'm in a flare up or sick it comes back with a vengeance.

Hopefully someone here will have a good suggestion.

Hi ktandkt1,

The proper name for numbness is parasthesias which is also known as a sensory symptom. There are no medications to help with numbness. Sometimes steroids can offer relief but usually steroids don't help with sensory symptoms as was the case for you.

Numbness can resolve on it's own but some have numbness as a permanent symptom <sigh>. Medication can help with pain.

That's about all they can do for us ktandkt1 I'm sorry This disease sucks.

Although there is no treatment for numbness every once in awhile someone will say Neurontin helped. I don't know, but it might be worth a try.

Well thanks Snoopy. The numbness or the paresthesia just get to be as much as the pain when I try to do delicate operation. My hands don't pick up small items. As I have said it my whole left side and part of my right hand. Sorry just venting.

Could've sworn I was prescribed a prednisone taper pack when I went numb from my waist down, right before diagnosis in 1999/2000. Just looked it up and numbness was reported to occasionally be a side effect of the drug. I remember feeling the numbness move slowly down; now I have no idea if I even took anything for it, after what Snoopy said. "There are no medications to help with numbness."

ktandkt1, I hope between 2 neuros you can get some relief!

Sparky10,

It is possible you did have a prednisone taper pack and possible it did help with the numbness. In no way do I want to say steroids won't help, it's possible they will and can be worth a try.

ktandkt1 had steroids for double vision and they helped but the steroids did not help with the numbness, which can also be the outcome.

Sparky10 thank you for you help. The insight others is helpful. I am not looking for a miracle drug as MS is different for all. Just look for ideas that other have done that worked. I have not heard or read much about people who have numbness all the time. I also got no information from Neuro 1 (he left) Neuro 2 said not much he can do but will try for pain.
