I'm so glad to hear that Kate's finger is healing. Poor thing. Smooches on her finger and hugs for Mommy's healing too.

I posted a reply to this today but it is missing! Becky still remembers the incident and it helped her (she says) deal with an injury when she was in Togo, West Africa in the Peace Corps. But your Kate is younger and the injury less severe. I am hoping and praying for quick healing and amnesia about the incident for her.

Kate now tells anyone who asks about her bandage that her "bones were popping out". She's pretty funny. She's healing well and the stitches should be out soon. It still looks terrible though.
Macy's sent me a $100 gift card today in the mail because of the incident. I'm not spending it until we see what my insurance pays for the ER and follow up visits. I have property insurance in case someone is injured on my property. They have the same I'm sure. We'll see. Cherie, I think I'll be better prepared if anything were to happen again. I hadn't thought about it until I read your post about your daughter in Africa. Even though it was such a terrible injury, it helped her or helped her help someone else. A little good came out of it I guess. Take care, Jean |
She broke the same middle finger that had been severed a couple of years later while bringing in wood for her Dad's office fireplace. Forgot to let go of the wood before dropping it onto the pile and smashed the tip of the finger again. Said it hurt terribly but she knew (at 8) that she could handle that pain after what she'd endured at 6.
I always hate to see a child sick or injured but we cannot always protect them and the things from which we are unable to protect seem to make them stronger. Oh...tell Kate it might have hurt when the stitches went in but it'll just ticckle if she feels anything at all when they come out. Lots of kids panic when the stiches are removed because they remember the acute pain when they went in. Removal is a delightful relief in most cases. |
