Default My morning surprise

Well, just when I think things couldn't get any worse, I woke up to a surprise this morning. I always wear a pad, day or night, due to leakage. My urgency was turning into more of a retention problem lately, so I've quit taking my daily Detrol and I thought my urinary problems were decreasing.

Fast forward to this morning - I woke up about 5 and found that my pad was completely soaked through! I felt like a 4 year old who had wet her bed ! That has never happened to me - at least not in the last 50 years or so. The urge to go has always woken me up in time.

So I guess I'll put on extra protection tonight & see if it happens again. All seems "normal" for now.

Hopefully it was an isolated incidence for you.

hi becky,

i'd call your dr and see if another med might help you more.
i've had that happen to me and i was mortified. thankfully i sleep alone.

i also bought a full mattress pad for my bed that will protect the mattress just in case.

i'd also check with your dr to evaluate what is happening with your bladder.
you don't want to chance a bladder infection with retention.

no way to say it escept that suc*s! Sorry you went from one extreme to the other.

I dont know how you feel about them but I found WalMart sells pretty decent (not "plastic-y") mattress covers that are waterproof, for a fairly decent price. At least until this gets under control it will help save the mattress.

Now go call the urologist or your neuro, PCP etc. They have to have something that will better balance things out (or in, as the case may be)

(((HUGS))) Sorry to hear about what happened.

Everyone gave good advice, so I don't have too much to add.

Take care of yourself.

Sounds like no fun, Becky. My trouble is that, when I cough, I leak. So, when I have a cold, or acid reflux problems that make me cough, I wear depends.

I do feel for you Becky, 'cept the last time I soiled my bed it was feces not urine so I bought myself some adult diapers and wear those now most nights. Keep your chin up, we're thinking of you.

the same thing happened to me recently while i was in hospital- i was in because of an ms flare up and i almost assumed that it was a worsening of my bladder probs from the MS- low and behold i had a low grade Urinary tract infection and now after a course of antibiotics my urinary symptoms are better than they have been for ages-it is worth having a spec sent off to check for UTI

Thanks for all the kind words - you guys are the best. There were no surprises waiting for me this morning & no other symptoms. I've got an appt coming up with my MS specialist so I'll post this episode in my MS diary and talk to her about it - course if it happens again, I'll give her a call. I had thought about a possible UTI - sometimes they cause weird symptoms.
