Another one that skipped the LP here, due to my happy little brain lesions.

You don't want to hear how bad my LP was, it was 2 weeks ago and I'n still now OK yet and I have been to the ER 3 times. It was painful, he didn't numb me and had to stick me 6 times!

I had both done at the same time. My neuro just said I would need to have blood drawn after the procedure.

I can see how an LP could be done with little or no side effects. I really kick myself too, since I knew from this board, that I was to stay down for 2-3 hours. IF and when this happens again, It's MY way LOL!!

I guess that will become my statement in the future when I answer the question. Good for people to know how it can go wrong. I don't ever want to scare anybody.

Let us know when you go in, will save prayers for you.

I remember having to have blood taken just before my LP. I was never told why, never gave it a second thought until now.

The only way to see if there is an immune response in the CSF is to compare it to a sample from the blood. If there are any O-Bands in the CSF, that result has to be compared to the blood. If there are the same number, then it is normal. If there are 2 or more bands in the CSF not present in the blood, then that is diagnostically important. Other diseases can cause O-Bands in the CSF, but if the rest of your clinical picture is indicative of MS, that could be the final piece of the puzzle.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! A good explanation!!

There is blood work and there is THAT BLOODWORK done in conjunction with the LP/ST. Different, very different!

We all get loads of bloodwork for mimics etc, but this blood work is a very different animal and might well be the defining piece in your puzzle.

I have had 4 LPs all with bloodwork, and for one the LP was actually delated till the orders for the bloodwork showed up...the Radiologist refused to proceed til then, said it would be a waste of time and unfair to me.

Ooops, need to introduce myself soon...I'm a stowaway from that other place.

OMG, all of that sounds so aweful! I hope they don't "have" to redo yours! I'm just going to do the happy dance with BG that I never had to get an LP.

Default LP a week after bloodwork

My neuro drew blood at the same time she scheduled my LP which was a week later.

I even looked at the blood work my Dr did and he didn't even do blood that has o-bands, he wasn't testing me for MS, he was just doing the LP to get me off his back.
