Confused Did everyone (but me) have blood work & LP done @ the same time?

Am I the only one that had an LP and did NOT have blood work done at the same time?

I now understand that I needed to have blood work done at the same time or the LP doesn't mean much. My neuro just doesn't seam to have he's act together.

I don't recall having blood work done with my LP either - but like you - I think it was your post on the other board where I learned that you should have both done at the same time....

That was the first I had heard of that.

They didn't draw any blood work at all before or after your LP??????

The only way to see if there is an immune response in the CSF is to compare it to a sample from the blood. If there are any O-Bands in the CSF, that result has to be compared to the blood. If there are the same number, then it is normal. If there are 2 or more bands in the CSF not present in the blood, then that is diagnostically important. Other diseases can cause O-Bands in the CSF, but if the rest of your clinical picture is indicative of MS, that could be the final piece of the puzzle.

My LP didn't have a blood test with it. My bloodwork, and lots of it, came weeks afterwards.

I had my LP and MRI on the same day, if I recall correctly. I had already had the blood work done prior to the LP and MRI.

My case was a bit odd, in that I was diagnosed on the same day I went for my MRI, however.

As you know, I had my LP and was quickly thrown out the door, no coke offered, no nap, no nothing...

Then they called me at home and said

"Oh, we forgot to get your blood, you HAVE to come back TODAY or you did the LP for nothing"

So I did

Thats all I know to share....

Yes I remember, you had yours right after me. I almost got the same treatment, I did get to lay there about 10 minutes.

Oh my goodness !!!
I have FINALLY decided to allow my Neuro to do another LP on me after many years and last summer she tried her best to talk me into one.

I am going to discuss with my Neuro ahead of time now to put on my order not to let me up for several hours - I don't want to get pushed out the door the way you both were - that is just WRONG !!! I had the spinal headache after my LP back in 2000 and had to have the blood patch and I do not want to go through that again if I can keep from it.
