Default Crashed and bruised..

I just got back from the ER.

I fell down, and went BOOOM! and my dad took me to the ER to make sure I didnt break anything.

I was standing on the basement stairs, about halfway up, talking to my dad, my cellphone in my room started to ring, so I went to go answer it. Somehow I missed a couple of the steps (probably about 2 or 3 of them) and ended up turning my knee somehow as I landed.

My dad took me to the ER just in case I might have broken something. I thought I would just end up with a bruise. I didnt break anything, but I strained/sprained my knee and have to walk with crutches for a few weeks.

I didnt think it would be painful to stand on this, but holy cow excrement, I had to have help putting my sweat pants back on! And when I stood up, I was not expecting the pain to be that bad. Geeze, it hurts. (unfortunately they didnt give me any good drugs...oh well)

I think I need to build up my upper body strength....crutches are tiring.

I'm just glad I dont have anything going on in the next week or two other than a neuro appointment tomorrow...which will be getting rescheduled. (not being able to walk on my toes, heels, or even just WALK might mess up the neuro check)

I'm sure the neuro will blame the fall on the MS...because he blames everything on the MS. argh.

Hopefully I'll heal from this quickly. Now I know how my aunt has been feeling with her torn meniscus in her knee. I can finally sympathize with her.

Erin! Erin! Erin! Take it easy girl...I am glad you didn't break anything but sprains/strains can be harder to heal than a break!

Do what the doc says and take care!!!! Don't push it! I have done that with a sprained ankle and end up doing more damage along the way and it takes longer to heal...

Crutches are a pain! You will get used to them. Make sure you use them correctly otherwise you will get tired easily! When I broke my ankle and had to stay off it for 8 weeks, I ended up using my desk chair on wheels to get around the house! Worked like a charm and much easier than those stupid crutches!!!

I may abandon my crutches and might comandeer one of my mom's rollators. (she's had 2 knee replacements) She has rollaters stashed all over the house.

I was going to go take a shower, but am too tired and sore to think about standing in there long enough to wash my hair. This may be the time to take advantage of the WALK-IN bathtub we had installed in the upstairs bathroom. Too bad the room isnt finished. Needs tile and waterproof walls around the tub. As long as I dont splash it's ok to use.

I think I'll wait till tomorrow to try to hose myself off. I'm not sure I'll even be able to stand on my knee tomorrow (hurts that bad now)

I'm already discovering other boo-boo's that I got from the hard landing. (didnt get my landing gear down in time...at least I didnt burn up in the crash) My hip and ankle hurt now too. My right shoulder...and my right low back (already had back problems from a car accident in 99) At least I didnt hit my head, I had way too many concussions and bumps against my head when I was growing up. At least I dont have to worry about my brain shorting out on me.

My boyfriend called to check up on me, and is teasing me that if I'm not nice to him, he's not going to kiss my knee and make it feel better. (I could think of other things he could kiss that would make me feel better... *sigh*)

At least now, I'm on my bed, I'm surrounded by two crochet projects, every crochet hook I own, all my knitting needles and at least 4 kinds of yarn. Along with a Harry Potter book (Half-Blood Prince) and of course my computer and an ice pack.

What's weird is, the past few nights, my feet have been getting numb around 10 at night, and it's almost midnight and my toes feel totally normal and I dont even have the numbness in my thigh (same side I fell on) that I've had for the past few weeks.

Maybe the fall told the little MS Trolls to go hide and not bother me for now. (hopefully)

I keep wanting to get up and walk around. I dont want to stiffen up. Know I'm going to once I fall asleep for any length of time. It just hurts to walk on that knee.

I cant wait till this heals. Hopefully it'll heal faster than the achilles tendon rupture that I had in 2001 did. (over a year to heal that!)

I've never had crutches before...they're not as easy to use as they look...and my upper body strength isnt all that great. You'd think with all the crocheting and knitting that I do would help. Guess it doesnt.

Jeez Erin...have a nice trip? We may have to change YOUR name to SLIPPY!

I can't believe they didn't give you good pain pills! Try what you got and if it doesn't work, call and yell! Rate it on the pain scale and don't be shy!

I ended up having to work my way to Vicodin when I broke my ankle a few years ago. They started me out on Tylenol 3 and it didn't touch the pain, I tried 4 or 5 different meds until they finally gave me the Vicodin, and that worked.

The doc said he didn't want me to " suffer from addiction" I almost whacked him. So what...I should suffer through PAIN and the jail time for killing you for making me suffer?

PS..the rolling chair thing was my saving grace when I was broken!

Hope it feels better soon!

well, the stronger stuff (even Tylenol 3) doesnt always agree with me, so unless this pain gets really bad, I'm sticking with the ibuprofen and the handy dandy regular Tylenol...and icepacks! I have a nice collection of icepacks, so now I'm getting to actually use them.

I'm starting to feel the pain from the fall a lot more than I did.

I'm so glad we have 2 seasons of Boston Legal on dvd, and that I have 3 or 4 of the Harry Potter movies, along with some other tv shows on dvd (the entire series of Stargate SG-1!yay!)

I'm going to get all caught up on my Tivo, and watch dvd's all weekend.

I wonder if I should take a baclofen. I can feel some muscles tightening up and am worried that I'm going to get woken up with a charley horse later.

I'm annoyed that I'm going to miss the neuro tomorrow. I was going to ask about other MS meds and maybe a little bit of solumedrol. I guess I can wait another couple of weeks.

OUCH!! I'm glad you are ok for the most part. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Also I'm very jealous of the walk-in tub!! I was just looking at those on line yesterday.

Awwww, Erin, so sorry you got all beat up! Hope you are feeling better very soon.

I liked the office chair idea -- very resourceful!

Make sure you give that BF a good workout -- see if he's good husband material: "Honey, bring me another ice pack and some ice cream after you mop the kitchen floor and scrub the bathroom."

The tub is nice, even tho the company sent a moron who didnt install it to code. Toilet's too close to the tub, and he used the wrong kind of pipes to get the water to the faucets in the ceiling in the unfinished basement below the tub, supposed to be copper, and he used something that looks like garden hose, and the bathroom just looks really ugly. He didnt get the overflow valve installed right and it kept him from putting the side of the tub on correctly. He did a craptastic job on it. We've hired another contractor who knows what he's doing to make it look good. Hopefully this guy is as good as we've been told.

Still, once you put water in the tub and are in there, happily playing with the rubber duckies, it's pretty nice. I just cant wait till it's totally finished, it's ugly in there right now.

This is a picture of it. Like I said, craptastic job.
The installer was insane. Didnt want us to look at him, claimed that if people watched him, he'd end up hurting himself. (and he did, dripped blood all over the tile in the bathroom from a head wound, and from where he cut himself with a saw)

yeah...unfortunately he lives 50 miles from me. I'm in Omaha, still living with my parents, he's in Lincoln (capitol city of Nebraska) He's got a cold, so I wont get to see him this weekend. I have to wait till next weekend.

Oh well, I'm not very mobile at the moment, hopefully my stupid knee will be better by next week. I had to venture upstairs on the stair chair thingie we got for my mom to scrounge up some ibuprofen and a bottle of water...and clean socks. Had to have my mom change my socks for me. Couldnt bend my right knee enough to get them on. I wonder if she still has her sock putting-on-thingie that she got when she had her knee replacements.

I just cant believe I fell down the stairs. I really dont think that was something caused by the MS, I think I just was in too much of a hurry to answer my cellphone.

I think I'm going to hijack my mom's rollator that she has upstairs the next time I go up to get a drink. She hardly ever uses it anyways. I'd comandeer the one she has down here, but it's too big to maneuver down here, we've got too much furniture in the basement. Less hassle to just use a crutch down here. (left one crutch upstairs so I have something to hobble on when I'm up there)

aw, geez, Erin... what a

sorry you got stuck with suck a dweeb, and hope the new guy can gracefully re-do the job!

I'm lucky, I have a wonderful contractor... when we were late getting home yesterday, he went ahead and fed all our animals for us, so we wouldn't have to do it in the dark.

what a great guy!
