Smile Myelin Basic Protein

Hi all,

Am a newbie (47) looking for advice from folks who seem to have some of the same struggles.

I'll be brief....started with numbness in both feet and legs in July, in Aug started vibrating/buzzing after spending a very hot day in Boston. After the buzzing stopped I was left with numbness pretty much all over. Other major symptoms include painful feet if I stand more than 1hr, vertigo, sensitivity to light (especially night driving), and constant neck pain.

The MRI (done in an open one) was negative, had a positive ANA of 1:160, negative EMG, spinal tap only had elevated Myelin Basic Protein.VEP is scheduled in a few weeks.

I like and respect my neuro who made an appointment for me with a MS specialist. She did say that based on my symptoms and MBP she is not ready to rule out MS and that for now I will just have to me monitored.

If anyone has any advice, etc I would be very grateful as this board seems to be very knowledgable.

Thanks,
Tessa

Was your MRI with and without contrast? Did they do a spinal and brain MRI?

Hang in there and keep us posted.

MRI was with and without contrast; did brain, neck, and spine.

Thanks for asking.

I'm un-DX right now, I have a clean MRI (brain & spine), what "little" blood work I have had done was OK but on my LP the BMP was elevated and the IgG rate was in the -'s (I understand this could mean you just had a flair which I did). Also my IgG index is at the upper end of the normal range, I understand that Dr's also look at this number for DXing MS.

My neuro doesn't care just because my MRI was OK so I'm happy to hear your Dr isn't ruling MS out just yet because your BMP is elevated. This gives me hope to find a new Dr that says the same thing.

Hi,
It sounds like your neuro is on the ball and I especially like that they are referring you to a specialist. Sadly it just takes time in some cases. Hang in there, Jules
