Default Dead Arm

Does anyone ever get what I can Dead arm??? Its happened to
me a handful of times. this started yesterday eve.

My left arm feels dead. Its very useless and weak. But it burns in
my hand, wrist, forearm and upper arm. Its kind of a burning throb.
I had to leave the Superbowl Party last night and go home and hot
pack it.

I couldnt get it comfortable to sleep last night so Im really tired. I
just couldnt get the pain to stop. This has happened before, but
its persisted into today.

Oh well, it could be worst.

I don't know if it is MS related or not but you might want to read on our thoracic outlet syndrome forum- just in case the symptoms fit for you also.
Pain in the hand, wrist ,arm is what many with TOS have.

Left arm (bad side) is useless, have to pick it up with other hand and plop it on things like a fish on a deck out of water. Shoulder really hurt for while, PCP called it frozen, I manipulated it to increase range of motion. Still doesn't work, but pain in shoulder stopped.

I did have this happen a few years ago but don't remember what I even did for it now.
Sorry I can't help. Hope it gets better soon.

yeah, in 2002, got it so bad my right shoulder dislocated.

my chiropractor popped it back in, and gave me muscle strengthening exercises.

it's still a little weak from that flare, 6 years later, and still totally numb, from my shoulder to my fingertips.

but I can USE that arm, for which I am very grateful.

noticed Saturday, (carrying home cabbage) that my upper right arm was very achy and BURNING like an SOB.

so, today, doin' a little Tai Chi to ease the pain, and make it stronger.

hugs to SoxMom, and hope your arm gets better soon!

Ive been using it very little but when I lift it above my head the upper
arm hurts and burns like alot.

Ya know I pushed myself and went hiking with the family yesterday.
I used a walking stick and was very proud of myself. I knew my legs
would be toast but my arm I didnt expect to feel like this. Im
sure its a coincidence. It just felt so good to be outside moving
a little, ya know.

Thanks everyone, Ill check out the tos forum.

I had this with my flare last year. I have had residual weakness but I went to PT in November and she gave me stretching and strength exersises which have helped.

I hope you are feeling better soon.

sox,

this sounds like something you need to call your dr about asap.
it's possible something else may be going on.
i've learned that not everything is MS related.

i think it's worth a dr visit and exam.
please call today and keep us posted.

Hi soxmom,

The burningn pain and especially the lifting issue sound like and inpinged nerve in or around the brachial plexus.

I am a TOSer (thoracic outlet syndrome) and my arm would go dead numb all the time and the lifting ugh sure made drying my hair a problem.

I agree that your should go to see your doc.

My right hand has been dead/numb/'fell asleep' since the first exacerbation. If I'm really stressed, physically or emotionally, it'll creep all the way up to my shoulder.

You may be having another exacerbation, or psuedoexacerbation. Or it could be something completely different and potentially worse.

Either way, I hope you get relief soon and don't wait to see the doc if it persisits.
