Default Versed?

Anybody been sedated with versed?

(20 20 24 hours to go I wanna be sedated! LOL)

I made my appt with the pain clinic for facet joint dx and asked to go with the sedation.

Wondering how long it takes to wear off?

I am supposed to be somewhere later the same day ( pain clinic at 9 am, pcp at 1:30) - or should I reschedule the other appt?

Versed is a very short acting anesthetic. We use it a lot in short cases in GYN surgery. It will make you dopey for the rest of the day, so you should not be driving at all that day. There is a drug that they can give you to reverse the effects of the drug if you'd prefer. Most people are awake and alert after about 10 minutes of the last dose.

You will need to have someone with you, and your reflexes will not be what they normally are on the day you receive the Versed.

Hi,
It has been my experience that even with the drug to reverse the effects,(and they generally always give you that),that you are going to be very sleepy all day. I have to nap all afternoon after having been given versed. My husband had an interesting side effect, he cried like a baby and this is a man I have seen cry twice in twenty years. Crazy. I wouldn't plan on going to work or anywhere but home to nap. I hope everything goes well for you.

I'd reschedule the other appointment.

Not only does Versed make you dopey, it's also got (wonderful) amnesiatic properties. I dont remember having my wisdom teeth removed, and I barely remember my carpal tunnel surgery.

My dad had a heart catheterization a couple of weeks ago. He was drunk the entire day, even with the antidote drug they give to reverse the effects. He told me that's a normal reaction to the med (my dad is a nurse anesthetist and gives people Versed all the time) My dad doesnt really remember most of that day. He remembers sleeping a lot, waking up to use the potty, and then sleeping a lot more.

My dad does not remember the nurse telling him not to make any important decisions and to not sign any legal documents that day just before they released him to go home.

Reschedule your other appointment. You probably wouldnt remember what happens at the other appointment anyways.

I 'm one for whom versed did not work. They gave it to me while pulling my teeth and they had to stop it. I became very aggitated and BP shot up and they had to finish my dental surgery with Novacane.

I guess I was allergic to it...terrible experience. Everyone told me that versed was wonderful and for them it was, but not for me.

I had versed when I had a lower intestine biopsy (to rule out celiac disease). It's actually really cool--one minute I was sitting up in the procedure room as they were prepping me for the biopsy. Then, in what felt like a minute later, I was waking up, back in the recovery room, everythig over.

Although I did wake up very soon after the procedure, I was still woozy, and there's no way I could have driven. My DH drove me home, and I slept on the couch for several hours.

If your PCP is nearby, maybe you could tell them about the appt, and ask if you could hang out a little longer (they tend to push you out as soon as you awaken), and go straight the other appt.

Thanks for all the replies!

I always have dh drive me to that place. Even without something like versed in me, the shots themselves freak me out (mentally - I get way nervous just thinking about that).

Sally - just goes to show like I always say, what works for some can be bad for others. That's where this forum is so valuable. Sorry it had a bad effect on you - but now you know and can find alternative anesthesias.

I may opt not to go with versed anyway, since it makes you that sleepy. After the FJD, I'm supposed to try to agravate the nerves and see if it helps the sx. I doubt I could do that if I'm that tired, and I wouldn't know if the test was pos or neg.

And the pain doc did say this was nowhere near like the ESI - I did those without versed or anything.

They gave me it and something else with my colonoscopey, I didn`t remember anything. Also didn`t have any side effects after the short recovery period after.
