((((((Craig)))))),
 I'm sorry the job didn't work out for you. I know how hard it is to face the reality that you really cannot work. It's a real kick in the teeth, isn't it :( I was supposed to do a two-week temp job near the end of my first year of disability. They got rid of 50% of the staff after day 5 because they over-estimated what they would need for the project. Thanks be to G-d they fired me because I wouldn't have been able to do the whole two weeks. Baxter and Catch are right about the tutoring, though. There are a lot of kids that need extra help with their schoolwork. Someone like you -- with the skill and the patience and the ability to work with kids of that age -- would be ideal for that kind of job. Hope you recover. I don't have MS. My spine is shot to heck. I know when I spend an hour or more on the paratransit van, I have to spend the entire next day in bed. Thank G-d for "The Young and the Restless", but, it sure does kick your self-esteem in the http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...LS/jackass.gif BIG HUGS. Craig
Sorry it took so much out of you:( I was a teacher for 10 years - taught grades 7-12 social studies and it was a tough gig when I was healthy - couldn't handle it now. I have often thought of going back - with my power wheelchair and trying it- but the reality is that those days are over for me. I agree with others who have suggested tutoring. Some school districts have after-school homework help and those are paid positions. Another thought is to try out some of the online tutoring sites that hire teachers. I realize it can be discouraging - those of us who loved teaching really miss it when we have to give it up. I always thought it was more than just a job - but truly a vocation. My best wishes to you! I hope you will be able to find a niche for your talents! Mo |
Craig, I'm so proud of you for following a dream and giving it your all!:You-Rock:
Ahh, 7th grade..They're just hitting the teen years. The terrible two's with a bigger vocabulary..:D Gotta love 'em! I like mine one at a time though (I still felt outnumbered).. |
Sorry to hear about this. You said you were doing this to supplement your SSDI. If you are not rated higher I would try to get a re-eval which in turn, if your rated higher you will get more money. My hubby was rated three times before he maxed out with SSDI.
This sadly showed you that a full day isn't possible but I also send kudos to you for trying with dignity. |
You still Da Man, Craig!

Well, I'm STILL recovering from my Monday attempt at substituting 7th graders. Yesterday was a lost day as I was in pain, imbalance, serious hang over feeling, headach, and just plain worn out.
Today isn't much better, so far. Thank goodness for strong Cinimmon Swirl coffee. I emailed in my resignation to the school board. Tutoring? Not my cup of tea either. No patience and flash backs to when my Dad, who has a Masters in Mathmatics, tried to "help" me with my homework. Back then I would have considered it child mental abuse. I think I will just go back to working my internet network marketing business and spending about four hours a day or so depending how I feel. I also learned from this experience that I will probably be in a wheelchair in the next year. Even with forearm crutches I fatigued quickly and became very unstable. Oh well, that's for another thread. Thank you all so much for your responses of warm support and the PMs. I really feel rejuvenated from reading them. I count you all among my best cyberfriends. Man! I love this place. :grouphug: |
Bless your heart Craig! I too am on permanent and total disability. More than once I have overestimated myself getting into predicaments much like you described you went through subbing for the day. Honestly, I'll probably do it again.....I'm such a hard head, things don't sink in so well. I keep telling myself that there's no shame in collecting my SSDI because I Do need and deserve it. But it is hard for me to accept sometimes.
