I just have to ask this because DH is driving me insane. Whenever I sit, I never keep my feet flat on the floor anymore.
I'll try to explain. Usually, I have my feet resting on the outside, almost on my ankles. This is comfortable to me and I've done this for the past year or so. However for some reason, it's driving my DH crazy. He's constantly telling me to stop doing it and put my feet flat on the floor. Can't help it, it's just more comfortable on the outside! It doesn't hurt to keep my feet flat on the floor or anything and I have no trouble walking. I think he's secretly worried about spasticity or something causing it, who knows. He has CP and even with surgery as a child, is prone to walking on his tiptoes when barefoot due to overly tight tendons so maybe he's worried that my tendons are becoming overly tight or something. I dunno. Just curious if anyone else sits the way I do or am I just unique? |

My sister is a bit of a control freak about stuff like that sometimes. When I sit, a lot of times, I'll have my feet flat, but sometimes I'll have them stretched forward and one foot will be on top of the other. You should sit how you feel comfortable. |

"Chris-cross, apple sauce" . . . that's what they used to say to my daughter in her primary years. They wanted all the kids to sit cross-legged, but she would be directly on her rump with her thighs tight to the floor too. Her legs would be out to either side.
"Who cares anyway?" was my response. ![]() I often sit with my feet like you, or stacked, if they are even near the floor. Usually though, they are tied up in the legs of the chair, or on the coffee table. ![]() Do you have 'excess' thighs? That can make being flat-footed or having your legs together more difficult, even with walking. If I am in company, I try to keep more flat-footed, with my legs together, just because it appears more lady-like. Maybe that's what your husband is thinking . . . ![]() Cherie

I always put my feet up on a footstool, usually crossed at the ankles.
and every few minutes, I have to re-cross 'em, as they start to ache. I carry a little folding canvas footstool with me all the time, so I can keep comfortable. anyone who doesn't like how I sit can *** ***. ![]()

You sound pretty unique to me.
I've never heard of anyone doing this but would suspect that if you're more comfortable in this position, go for it. Your positioning of your feet like that just may be "freaking" him out. He can't do it so he figures something must be wrong with you. Maybe not. Ask your neuro next time you see him. I think he'll give you the same response. I wish I was flexible enough to even attempt it much less being comfortable doing it. ![]()

That's how my feet are most of the time, if my feet even touch the floor

Some of the responses are cracking me up and are making me think that I sit in a lot of different positions, but no matter what, one or both of my feet are usually resting on the outside, not flat.
Right now, I have left leg crossed over right, very lady like and all, but sure enough my right foot is turned leaning toward the outside, ankle almost touching the ground. I also sit with ankles crossed sometimes or left leg under me (never right leg), it just depends. At work I do believe I have my feet flat more often than not. I seem to reposition my legs more often than I thought! BTW, just got busted by DH for the ankle thing. I kept pressing him, asking him why it's bothering him so much. His response? "I'm afraid you're going to break your ankles someday - you know that's not good on your muscles and tendons". I'm thinking that because I haven't *always* done this strange thing with my ankles that maybe he's thinking the MS is getting worse or something. Of course he could just be bummed because he doesn't have that type of flexibility or something. ![]() ![]() The thing about the couch - wow, that's just insane! I'd have been half tempted to start walking or jumping on it when her child was, just to see her reaction! ![]() |
