Default Anyone diagnosed MS without any numbness??

Just occured to me that numbness really get the MS neuro's attention. When my MS doc said, he basically ruled out everything else, he'd treat "this" as MS.

Later learned from the nurse, that it was a mild/benign case. His PA told me a afew years later, NO, you do not have MS. But just this past summer, the MS neuro said he never rules it out. Will continue to monitor me. I am seeing yet another neuro in his office for possible Narcolepsy and sleep apnea. THis is a new DX.

OK never had major numbness but periods of numbness/tingling yet not over 24 hours. I do get buzzing, brain tremors and sensory symptoms, but mostly cognitive ones that get my attention. I do have multiple lesions, but not in the "typical" ms places in the brain. I do have serious neurological problems that keeps them monitoring me. But NO DX yet in 4 years of seeing them.

Just wondering if numbness and ON are the most diagnoseable symptoms.

Thanks for your responses,

Warmly Jan

hi jan,

i don't think of numbness being a primary sx (symptom) altho it's very common. i was dx'd (diagnosed) by my neuro exam, an abnormal emg of my legs, my clinical sx's and my brain mri which had 6 lesions.

then, some time after that i had a c-spine mri which had 2 lesions, and an LP in which i had 2 O-bands.

have you had a spinal tap?

sometimes lesions aren't in a "typical" place.
maybe you could get another opinion from someone outside this office.
are they MS specialists?

Yes, I have had an LP=normal. Although I could not keep my balance nor walk the heel to toe, my neuro exam was "good"...huh?

THey have noted the cognitive, speech, swallowing symptoms over the years and will treat with Prednisone.

I trust this guy and he keeps a special eye on me cuz of these "episodes" I get where my Bp/HR suddenly go up along with weakness that usually puts me in the ER. Its stoke like but he's ruled out that they were TIAs. Now I am told by another neuro in his office that specializes in seizures and sleep disorders, that I may have a form of narcolepsy with cataplexy.

Just wondering..

It was numbness that sent me to the doctor in the first place. I woke up one morning to find one leg completely numb, and the other one joined in about a week later.

I've heard that optic neuritis is a more common first symptom.

No numbness here. Just a sudden, severe case of ON.

I have numbness now, but not when I was dx'd..I was having trouble walking very far without having trouble picking up my right leg to take the next step. My knee kept snapping backwards..I thought it was just hyperextended or something..Ha!

I'm sorry Sarah.....I know how bad you need a dx of some kind, but I'm starting to think your neuros should be the ones to have been pregnant all the time!

Maybe then they too would be able to feel the euphoria that you obviously feel with pregnancies....according to them!

I don't think you're nutty, and each time I read another post about symptoms that your doctors keep ignoring, my blood boils for you.

From my personal observations of MS, is that MS has NO pattern. It's like the weather here...If you dont like the weather, wait 20 minutes, it'll change.

Except that if you dont like your MS, wait 20 minutes (2 days?), it'll do something even weirder and more disturbing.
