Default Starting Requip

Doctor called me in Requip for the leg pain I've been having at night.

He's starting me off with .5 mg for one week and then upping it to 10 mg.

One of the side effects I'm most concerned about, well other than the increased desire for sex , is feeling sluggish and kind of out of it the next morning.

Anyone taking this that can give me some heads up on what to expect the following morning and day?

I don't want to be on a drug that is going to leave me basically incapacitated.

Thanks!
Kim

Kim,

I have never taken it, but I do know that everyone reacts differently to meds.

Ask your pharmacist how often he/she has patients with these complaints....

Try it tonight and see what happens....tomorrow hopefully is a down day for you at home....

Good Luck!

I found that I actually slept better, and felt better in the morning. No side effects that I have to report. Your doc will bump you to 1mg, not 10mg....it's a very low dose drug

Oh yes...you're right. He's starting me off at .5mg and then upping it to 1mg.

Thanks greenjeans. Hopefully I'll have the same response as you. I've not been sleeping well at all and been taking valium and motrin to try and relieve the pain which does seem to leave me sluggish the next day. So hopefully this will be the right alternative.

Oh yeah! I think you'll like this much better! Sometimes I will take it around 8PM so it is kicking in by 10, and when you get into bed, you will be relaxed and ready to sleep. Let us know how it goes for you

Greenjeans,

Wow! The Requip was wonderful. I sleep great and woke up refreshed

I had a question. If the .5mg works for me do you think there's a need to up the dosage to 1mg?

(I hate taking meds so the less I have to take the better)

Good question? I know when I got mine, it came in one of those new packages..the first week was .5 and the second week was 1. The prescription he wrote was for 1 too. Not sure why they up it?

So glad it worked so well for you!! I hate pills too, and am very sensitive to drugs, so I tend to do well on the low doses. Let me know what your doctor says....if you ask him about it.

I'm seriously considering Requip. I normally just plow through any pain I may have at any given time, but this nighttime crap is getting to me.

My legs are slightly spastic all the time, but at night, they hurt and are jumpy/restless and keep me awake a long time. I keep getting up, making myself more comfortable and then laying back down, only to repeat, until I finally fall asleep from exhaustion.

I wonder if Requip would help me? I don't take a bunch of meds...just LDN and Prozac and an occasional asprin.

Thanks for this thread BTB...

The Requip worked wonders when I first started taking it...the RLS I'd been suffering from was calmed down. I was on 1 mg/day.
Then the RLS began earlier in the evening, so the neuro upped the dosage to .5 mg in the morning and 1 mg in the evening. The RLS didn't start until around 8 pm.
Now it's starting around 6 pm. I've read that the body builds up a tolerance to the drug...which is what I think is occuring with me.
