Going to the College World Series this year???

Omaha's going to screw up the CWS because the mayor thought it would be a great idea to build a new stadium in a crappy part of town for $30 million...when there was nothing wrong with the old stadium. (none of this has been built yet, they're still in planning stages and trying to talk the people of Omaha into paying tons of taxes to pay for it all)

They got rid of Dingerville (parking lot full of campers and RV's near the stadium that turned into a little town during the CWS every year) and now, they're going to get rid of the stadium for a bigger one, in a crummier part of town with a crappy parking situation.

Gee Erin, sounds like what's happening at Boise State...we buy 4 season tickets for football...and we don't even get parking. But if you got one of them humungous RV's you get parking, but you have to buy season tickets. And those yahoo's don't even go in and watch the game. They sit in the parking lot in their RV's with their big screen TVs and their satelite dishes and watch the game...eat, drink, makes messes, and we don't get parking spaces because of them. Parking? What's that...we walk about 15 blocks to the games. We were promised parking, but it has not happened. We did 4 years ago, but they took it away from us for the RVs.

Omaha took Dingerville away and made all the RV's move to another area that's not as nice as the old Dingerville.

That was a few years ago, the Dingervillian's were ticked.

Now the city wants the revenue that the people who live around the stadium get for allowing people to park in their yards and driveways. That's one of the reasons they want to move the stadium. One of the other reasons is that the mayor wants to get more money out of taxing the hotels. I think the lodging tax is something like 15% already, and they want to raise the tax even higher to pay for the new stadium.

So, if this goes thru, Omaha will have one the highests lodging taxes in the country!

They've started a recall petition to get the mayor yanked out of office. (yay!) This will be the second time in 20something years a mayor has been recalled.
