Default Does the Chair you sit in all day at work?

When I was sick with the Bronchitis my MS sx seemed be gone - my leg spasms were pretty null and I had no pain but yesterday come the end of the day my legs were full with spasms, pain was started and the swelling was back.

I was mentioning it to DBF and he wondered if it may be the chair I sit in at work? I didn't got to work for two weeks and was sick but I didn't have trouble..... two days back to work but also feeling much better and the MS sx are back.

Is this a coincidence or am I just reading to much into it?

Could be the chair. We used to have chair companies come in and try to sell us the latest lumbar support. Or, it could be the job.

DBF may have a huge point, Char. Many of my clients at work were major office furniture companies and we did a lot of kinesiology and ergonomic studies with them.

Your chair at work may be in a conspiracy with your work station to cause you multiple points of discomfort. Things to be aware of are things like the height of the chair for your legs, can your feet rest flat without putting pressure on your thighs or lower back? Is your desk/work area too high for your arms to rest at their natural level? Must you look up/down to view your computer monitor? Is your keyboard in a tray below your desktop or must you raise your arms to the keyboard? Do you habitually type while resting your arms' weight onto your wrists? Can your chair rock, roll, and swivel to accommodate your routine motions during regular tasks?

If your work station can't work in concert with your natural body motions, it's almost inevitable that the theory has merit. Naturally, job stress is real and can contribute, but if the physical conditions have a negative impact, it can really effect your comfort.

I hope you'll feel better soon.

since the desk is a given, height-wise... and not much I can DO about it, short of a skillsaw...

I fiddled around with my chair height, until I found a height that works to keep my arms relaxed and comfortable while keyboard-commando-ing.

unfortunately, since I'm 5' 2" that leaves my FEET not quite reaching the floor.

solved the problem with a padded footrest, and VOILA !!

getting a LOT less calf spazzin' goin' on now.

experiment... until you find what works, and keeps you comfy, Yabbit.

What if you have the most awesome desk chair ever and it stops working for you? What if you can't be comfortable anywhere anytime for more than a couple minutes no matter how much Baclofen there is? Can you tell I'm a little frustrated?

Gee Holl, you seem a little edgy.

Are you sure that the Baclafen is still working for you? Sometimes we have to switch things up a bit to keep getting results. I changed to Zanaflex and it has worked well for me for about 3 years now.

Also, do you stretch your muscles regularly? That's a huge help for me.

change it.

the cushions wear out. your own body changes.

you can add a seat cushion or a back rest. that helps for awhile.

monkey speaks from experience. i have a severe back condition. i LOVED (past tense) my chair. i even brought it into the living to watch tv!

not anymore. it's killing me. i almost get anxiety attacks. the pain revs up so fast. up and down...up and down. change the height. get up and walk around.

on hubby's to do list...a new computer chair for me.

Sorry your in so much pain. I would request a new chair if your on the job. If not, seriously consider a new chair at home. They can be quite pricey but when it comes to your comfort your employer should make reasonable accommodations for you.

Also, how much Baclofen are you taking? It may be time to either up the dosage or change medications as Cindy stated. My hubby takes 90mgs a day of Baclofen (30mgs three times a day).

Thanks Everyone.... I am going to break down next week and buy a new chair and when I leave it will just go with me. I asked today and there is no money so I will get it myself.

Today my tongue is numb - driving me crazy and also the buzzing is back in my neck. I tried the neuro a couple of times and the phone was busy. I will call first thing tomorrow morning and report it! I know know how important it is! That started late this morning and tonight the side of my face is going numb - I can feel it working up my face started at my chin and now is part way up my cheek - usually I don't notice it going slow but today I am for some reason.... weird.

Going to go and take a shower and see if that helps my neck - some times it does some times it doesn't.

I take 20mg of Baclofen in the morning - 10mg in the afternoon and 30mg at bedtime. My PCP and I talked about maybe changing it to Zanaflex because I have taken the Baclofen for since Nov 2006 - she said sometimes it is good to change?

take your time in the store when buying the chair. sit in it for awhile. roll up to the desk.

the office depot by me is really helpful. they will even move stuff around to simulate your office setting. height of desk...computer, that type of thing.

take care yabbit. i hope this does the trick for you.
