Hello,
I am new here and looking for a diagnosis. I guess you guys probably get these posts on the time. It started with bad pain in my spine. Then a couple months later I started getting numbness in my hands and they started to not move right. Just most recently I started getting numbness in the top of one thigh. My back does not hurt too bad when I wake up in the morning. But, any movement of the spine, or most movements of my arms (as the muscles attach there) causes the pain to get worse until I am in tears if I ever try to do much. Could this be MS? Or are the pains that are caused by MS constant throughout the day? Thanks for your help. Sad, scared and in a lot of pain. |

Hi, Iskimud!
![]() Sorry about the pain you're experiencing, it can be extremely trying. As to your question, it could be so many, many other things, or even a combination of multiple things, no one here can say for sure what is causing it. You might benefit from visiting our spinal disorders forum here: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum22.html Also, we have a nifty search engine located in the toolbar near the top of every page. Look around and feel free to join in anywhere. Above all, have you seen a neurologist?

WELCOME TO THE NEUROTALK FORUM COMMUNITY AND ALL IT HAS TO OFFER YOU!
![]() The first thing I thought of when I read your subject was, "Duh!" But after reading your post I understand what your point is about your condition. You have quite a journey ahead of you for any type of diagnosis much less MS. Obviously "we" don't diagnose anyone here on the forum. We're NOT doctors so we can only compare experiences and express supportive opinions. It sounds to me like you should visit your PCP and have him start the physical and clinical evaluation along with a lot of blood work for conditions and diseases that mimic MS symptoms. As a side note to your description, I would also have him evaluate you for Fibromyalia. You never know. Again, welcome. ![]()

I dont know what you have, (like others said, we dont diagnose here) so I'm hoping that whatever you do have is something that's easily fixable and not MS or anything worse. I have fairly serious lower back pain. It's in the lumbar section of my spine. My MS lesions are higher up. (T12 and C4) They didnt find anything in my lower back to explain my back pain. (which is actually why I was getting an MRI at the time. They'd "ruled out" MS, and my regular doctor was looking for a reason for my back pain...I wasnt really suprised tho) My neuro told me that my low back pain is probably due to a car accident that I had in 1999. (t-boned a moron who turned left in front of me) He also told me it could be from the way I walk because I've got bad knees, which are giving me bad hips. So, even if they were to tell you that you have MS, MS isnt always to blame for aches and pains. We're not immune to other physical problems. But, you should do what some of the others suggested, go to your doctor and have them check things out for you. Hopefully you wont have anything too serious. |

When I ask, does your pain get worse with movement I mean, if I pull a muscle, it gets a lot worse when I move. On the other hand, if I've got a bruise, it hurts when you press on it, or maybe it aches in general, but it doesn't really matter much if I'm moving or not. Which way does MS pain act?
I have had a ton of tests done and they haven't found anything. |

Have you had a MRI of your spine? The numbness indicates a spinal problem, of some sort. The pain you describe could too.
Yes, my pain gets worse with movement. Cherie
