I've had a nerve conduction study done at least twice. Once was at the local mall, where some chiro had set up a booth and was trying to get new clients. I didnt go for it.
The other time was when my car insurance paid for me to go to a chiropractor after a car accident in 1999 when I hurt my back. He did the xrays, the nerve conduction study and then said I had to have a lot of adjustments to fix it. I stupidly went ahead and let him do 8 or 9 adjustments. Found out later that this guy was a complete quack. He'd actually injured one of my cousins about a year before to the point that she had to go to a real doctor for surgery to fix her back injury that the chiro made worse. (he's out of business now. He got sued by someone else in a case that made the papers and he lost his chiropractor license) My back has hurt ever since that car accident. I dont know of the chiro made it worse or not like he did to my cousin, but I dont trust chiropractors at all now. My neuro cant tell me if the back pain is from the car accident or if it's some kind of spasticity from the MS. He thinks it might be a combination of the original injury and spasticity. I do stretching exercises now to try to help it, but some days I cant even do the stretching exercises. I dont take pain meds for it. I do occasionally take small amounts of baclofen or flexeril for it, but mostly I try to ignore it as much as I can. I think it's mostly the injury from the car accident that caused it, because putting a heating pad on it doesnt make me numb, and doesnt make the pain worse (helps it actually), so I guess if it's being caused by the MS, it's not to the point where I'd get a Uhthoff's phenomenon from it yet by putting heat on it. |
