Ok, you all might have read my post yesterday about how my right foot had been numb?
Well, this morning, my right leg had the Charlie Horse From Heck. Woke me up out of bed, I had to actually lay there and bite my lip to keep from screaming. Finally got to the point where I could get up and stand to work off the charlie horse, but my leg feels really really weird. I feel like I cant lift my foot up very well. I think I'm going to call the neuro's emergency number in a few minutes. I can move my toes, and I can walk, but it just feels really strange. It's only been about five minutes since I had the charlie horse, and I took a Flexeril right after I was able to stand on my leg without wanting to scream. I really hope this isnt an exacerbation, because I'm supposed to go to the zoo tomorrow with my boyfriend and then to a Blue Man Group concert. (with his family) argh! I dont feel good again. I think I'll go ask my dad what he thinks I should do. |

Erin, not to make you feel like your symptoms are trivial, but to help you calm yourself, this is the stuff that happens.
![]() My suggestion would be to rest well until Monday (don't skip the concert, just take it easier than you'd like to) and call the neuro on Monday. I hope this passes quickly for you. ![]()

I called the neuro's emergency number. The on-call neuro (not mine) is going to call me back.
I went upstairs and talked to my dad about this. Told him what happened and what it felt like things are doing. It feels like my leg doesnt want to follow all my directions. I was going to go get my hair cut, but I think I'm not going to do that now, because I'm not sure that I can drive, my ankle and foot feel so weird. Almost like I'm not quite exactly sure where my foot is. (proprioreception????) I really do not like this. Oh, and my boyfriend has been picking on me about the concert, because I apparently didnt jump up and down for joy when he told me he was getting me a concert ticket. So, he's probably going to think I'm making up an excuse to not go. The way my foot feels right now, I'm not sure if I want to go. and the on-call neuro just called me back. He told me to not walk a bunch this weekend, so no zoo tomorrow. He said I could do the concert, but to rest my leg all weekend. I guess I'll get my going-to-the-store cane that I carry in the store just in case I get vertigo and start using it more often. The on-call neuro thinks that this might be heat related. I'm on antibiotics because I havent felt all that great since the dentist visit, (but I think the foot numbness was going on before that) I had just woken up (was woken up by the charlie horse from HECK) and my dad told me when I was upstairs that my face was red, like I was warm or something. So, the neuro thinks that it's heat related, but he told me to just relax today and rest, dont do a lot of walking, dont go to the zoo tomorrow, and if I have any more problems, call him back. I just feel really weird right now. I'm thinking the antibiotics are making me feel a bit sick now. I'm going to turn my ceiling fan on even tho it bugs me, and I think I'm going to go get an ice pack or two out of the freezer. (those icepacks that come with my C are going to come in handy! I better warn the boyfriend that I'm not doing the zoo tomorrow (which means he has to drive all the way back uptown after the zoo to pick me up for the concert...I better give him gas money) |

My foot doesnt feel as numb as it has, it still feels like something weird is going on, I just told my boyfriend that I cant go to the zoo, and that I'll be using a cane when we go to the concert. His parents are going to be there, so I guess that I now have to explain to them about the MS. That'll be interesting. If I have a fever, I wonder how long it takes for Tylenol to start working. I still feel warm. |

Ok, I slept for a couple more hours, after having taken a couple of Tylenol.
When I woke up, my foot was still numb, but it didnt feel so creepily weird, and it feels a lot better than it did after the Charlie Horse from the Tenth Level of Hell woke me up. I guess the on-call neuro was right, it was heat related...and I wonder if the weird feeling it had, was just a product of being too warm and possibly from the charlie horse trying to kill me. I'm pretty sure the charlie horse was a spasticity spasm. Gosh, that really sucked. I'm still not going to the zoo tomorrow tho. |

I'm glad you're feeling a bit better. Sorry you'll have to miss the zoo. I hope you get another chance soon. ![]()

I did rest like the neuro told me to, but then my parents wanted to go to the bookstore and then get something to eat, so I drove them to the bookstore, and ended up walking around the bookstore a bunch, then we had to go eat, and then my dad wanted to go to the store. So, I think all the rest I got earlier today was just made moot. I'm probably worrying too much, but I'm scared that this is the start of a new exacerbation. I looked up the dermatomes for the various places that have numbness, and my right foot corresponds to the S1 area of the spine. I didnt think MS lesions went down that far. I'm still hoping this is a weird side effect of the Baclofen and the Trazodone that I'd been taking for the past few weeks. Some of the weird numbness started about a week or two ago when I started taking both of the meds fairly regularly. If I'm right, then I guess the Charlie Horse from the Tenth Level of Hell, might have been caused by me not taking any Baclofen or Trazodone last night. I dont know...I'm just getting tired of the weird carp that MS does to me. I'm tired of waking up to some new and annoying symptom every few weeks or months. It's really frustrating. I want to get a job, but I dont know how I'd be able to deal with all this weird crud and try to keep a job at the same time. Especially if I'm heat sensitive. (most of the places around here that would hire me, dont have the best a/c in the summertime. I hope nothing else weird happens over night, I'm kind of looking foward to going to a concert tomorrow with my boyfriend, and I really dont want to cancel on him. I dont want him to waste the ticket, or get caught scalping it. |

Erin,
I have had those awful charlie horses from Heck also, even before I was diagnosed with MS. Mine are usually caused when I don't have enough calcium. I am a big milk drinker and times when I do not drink enough, I usually have the charlie horses. You may also want to be sure you are getting enough potassium....think bananas. Picture this......18 foot camper...DD asleep in fold out bunk over our bed...DS asleep in dinette bed.. DH asleep beside me. I get the Charlie horse from He!!. I can't get up and walk [very limited space]which usually helps, I can't put my let straight up and push or I would have enfolded DD in the bunk! So I lay there in agony until it eases. Then I realize I have not been drinking much milk!! For two days afterwards my muscle was very sore. So the point of the post is this....with taking the antibiotics after the dental work, your electrolytes may be slightly off which could cause the charlie horses Hope this helps and your are feeling better Enjoy the concert!! ![]() PS You mentioned your dad is a CRNA....so is my DH. My DS is pre med in college planning to become an anesthesiologist. I think he just wants Dad to work for him!! |
