Has anyone ever had a flare or exacerbation after dental work?

I mentioned in another post that I went to my regular doctor and he gave me a (supposedly) better antibiotic today. I've taken one about 2 or 3 hours ago, and now the right side of my cheek is numb, and so is the right side of my upper and lower lips.

Oh, and now the right side of my jaw hurts. Not too badly, but enough to be really annoying.

I'm waiting for a neuro to call me back.

I also feel really warm, and my right foot is more numb now.

I just feel like crap and am really worried now that I'm getting a flare.

The neuro (not my regular one) said that I should just relax tonight, and call them in the morning and that they're probably going to want to hook me up to the solumedrol for a couple of days. (oh carp! not looking forward to that)

He said unless I start feeling some paralysis, the numbness isnt going to hurt me, it'll just drive me batty.

I cant wait till 830am now. I just want all this stupid MS carp to stop for a bit. I'm not happy about this, and now I'm going to be scared to get any more dental work done because it seems like that's what's set this off.

are you running a fever? if you got the infection which i seem to recall deb did the same thing it got into her stomach made her real sick, in which case i would wager you are running a fever which could cause an exacerbation even a psuedo one, drink fluids take yours meds get some rest bring the fever down

I dont have a thermometer, but I think I do have one.

The nurse took my temperature at the doctor's office today, It was 97.5, but the doctor told me he thinks their thermometers are not accurate any more. He thought it was possible that I had a fever, because I was melting in his office and he said it wasnt all that warm in there.

I've been taking ibuprofen and tylenol today, trying to not go over the amount you can take without screwing up my liver while I'm at it. Thank goodness SS sent me 2 more little gelpacks for when I do my shots.

I just hope this goes away soon. It's annoying me and making me a bit grumpy. (sorry if I'm whining)

You are entiltled to that whine. You've had a streak of bizarre happenings to contend with recently.

I know even a change of one degree in my temp sends sx into overdrive. I hope the tylenol helps. Feel better.

I felt better this morning. Foot is still numb, but not as deeply numb. I think I might have to get used to that sensation tho.

I think the antibiotics that my regular doctor gave me the other day have started working on whatever was causing me problems in my mouth.

I just got back from the dentist, she was checking my mouth to see if there was any infection in there, and she didnt see any sign of it. Said that the antibiotics must be working now because she didnt see anything.

We did notice that two of the teeth she worked on last week somehow got fused together when she was putting the composite fillings in them. She fixed that for me, and now my mouth doesnt hurt like it did. She said that maybe that was part of the problem.

She looked at the teeth she worked on, and the lower ones that still need work, and she said that it seems like the pain and sensitivity might just be normal irritation after having dental work (and having two teeth fused together for a week) She did think that I might be grinding my teeth at night, so that could have something to do with the problem.

I think there was some infection in there and in my lymph nodes of my throat, because I'd been waking up really really warm and feverish feeling all weekend until this morning.

I still have the numbness in my foot, but it does feel like it's starting to not be so bad as it was (or I'm getting used to it) I'm guessing the neuro was right yesterday when he said I was having a pseudo-exacerbation.

Hopefully whatever's been happening is starting to resolve itself.

Except for my foot still being numb, I feel a lot better than I had all weekend. I have a headache, but I think that's from just having a dentist poking at my teeth to see if she could find a problem.

The headache could be because I just found out how much it would cost to straighten my teeth with Invisalign (plastic covers over the teeth that straighten crooked teeth) Invisalign is cheaper than regular braces, but geeze, still really expensive...over $5000!!...regular braces are even more expensive!!! I think I'll stick with the two crooked teeth for now...at least I'm getting my teeth healthier now. (4yrs of neglecting to see a dentist apparently does a lot of damage)

Having 2 teeth fused together sounds painful. I hope it also was part of the problem and has been resolved.

I don't grind my teeth but I clench them. So much so my gums bleed and my jaw aches. I just had a nightguard made for my bottom teeth last week. It certainly has helped a bit. Although I've very tense due to my ankle saga.

$5k+ for braces. How do parents pay for them? Maybe kids are cheaper? Have you looked into veneers, they just cover the front of the tooth and would hide the crookedness. Just thinking aloud.

Keep drinking liquids and flush that infection out of your system.

yep...I asked about the veneers too. (a genetic birth defect that I have that's done weird stuff to some of my joints and tendons also gave me thin tooth enamel and very soft teeth)

My teeth are kind of ugly. It's not from not brushing, I've done a lot to try to keep my teeth looking nice, but genetics apparently didnt want me to have good looking teeth.

The dental tech told me that veneers are about $850 PER TOOTH! (eek!) She said that they usually do six of the front teeth. (bottom and top, so that's probably 12 teeth, which equals more than I can afford)

I think I'll just get my teeth whitened after I get done with some of the more important dental work...at least my teeth wont be falling apart by the time I'm done with getting everything fixed up.

I do think that finally getting this stuff taken care of is going to be a good thing. If I can get an pseudo-exacerbation just from having a few fillings replaced, I dont want to know what would happen if poor teeth health started to affect my overall health.

I neglected to have a dentist fix a couple of problems because I have a dentist phobia, and was also ticked off at my old dentist (he threw a hissy fit and a tray of instruments across the room and cussed me out when I didnt get numb immediately after he gave me the anesthetic)

Now I wish I'd just gone and found a new dentist immediately after I left the old dentist's office. I wouldnt have had all these problems this week if I had just found another dentist back then.

I wonder if some of the teeth problems are what brought the MS to the surface 2yrs ago.

I cant wait till everything in my mouth is all fixed up. Maybe then I wont have so many little pseudo-ex's.
