Brain stem lesions . . . hmmm. Do you have other spinal lesions too? I guess they don't run into too many people in this situation, but I think that it is very possible this is caused by MS.

HI BECKY!!! So glad your'e back and mending! We missed ya around here. My Mother had a pacemaker and had to go through the same rituals you do. I always found it quite amazing, but when they'd check it over the phone and she had to put that magnet on her PM, I would always hold my breath. She'd laugh at me.

She had hers for 9-10 yrs and then had to have a new generator put in. She was a tiny lil thing, so you could see the bump of the PM and even the seatbelt would bother her, so I got her a seatbelt cushion, so it wouldn't rub.

I don't know if I have any spinal lesions. My MS became apparent in 1992 a few months after back surgery in 1991. In the MRI of my spine, they were looking for the source of my back pain. The Neurosurgeon said I had a ruptured disk and degenerative disk disease so he operated.

The heart problems began the same time as my back but they thought it was stress from the back pain and surgery. When MS symptoms started the heart problems were on and off for a couple of years. I had to eventually go on meds to get it under control. The meds stopped working and I had to have the pacemaker put in in 1996 and take meds for the arrhythmias.

I have never seen a connection in searching through the MS info for all these years but there are certain diseases that intefere with the heart signal. I guess I'm in the unknown area but it could be MS related. They didn't think my back or headaches were part of MS in the beginning and that has changed now.

Pssst, when Jim was first dx'd, they did mention that although very very rare, the heart can be affected by MS. Only because it is part of the central nervous system. I think because it's so rare, we don't hear much about it. You are special!
