I've had a new prescription (Buspar) sitting on my table for five days. I'm supposed to go back to my PCP in a couple of weeks to tell her how it's working. Haven't taken it yet.

I'm so bad with starting new meds. I've had so many unhappy events and am so sensitive to stuff, that I keep putting it off another day.

When I read the side effects, "Call your doctor right away if....", there's a whole list of things that I ALREADY have off and on. How do I know if it's the new med causing "drowsiness" or whatever?

Plus I hate to start something new while I'm working. I can't just leave in the middle of the day. Aaaargh.

Am I the only weenie out here??

B2Y - this medication may work for you and I hope it does - but my experience with it was, although shortlived, very disturbing.

My doctor prescribed it to me the day my husband died. This doctor was the same one Tim went to and was also a friend of the family so it was natural for us to talk during this time.

I took it as prescribed and it totally shut me down emotionally. I literally could not feel anything. My husband had just suddenly passed away and I was a walking zombie. No tears, no feelings, nothing - just a zombie.

I took it for several days and stopped. I knew that I needed to grieve and taking this medication I could not. I didn't want to put off the inevitable for months and have to deal with it later.

Now, my experience could have been extreme but I just wanted to share with you the way it made me feel, I've not seen this particular drug prescribed too much. I hope that if you decide to take it that it helps you and you don't have this side effect that I had. I realize that it probably could have helped me better survive the days and weeks following such a traumatic event but it just scared me that I couldn't even feel the most basic emotions. I hope it works better for you....

Thank you for sharing your story. That's precisely what I'm afraid of! I wish I could take a few days off work each time I start something new, but I can't.

Of course, I was not in a good frame of mind when I started it - probably at the extreme end of anxiety - so I'm thinking I might have had a different reaction to it if I had taken it under different circumstances. I don't know and I've never taken it since so I don't guess I'll ever know for sure.

Do you have any vacation or personal time you could take to give it a try?

Hi Blessings, I took Buspar a few years ago and I had absolutely no effects, good or bad. I was on it for a couple of months. I was at the 'nervous breakdown' point then. So I guess everyone reacts differently like with so many other meds. I've had a horrible time with other meds like Effexor, Wellbutrin, and the dmd's (except for Ty). Give it a try over the weekend, especially if you think you really need this type of drug. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon !

I've not tried the med your faced with, but I am really sensitive to meds.

I started Namenda last week, 5mg, this week it was to be 5mg 2x day. But I'm only doing 1/2 of 5mg 2x day, because I was knocked out, barely functioning exhausted last week. I'm going to take it super slow.

When I started Lexapro 10mg last summer, it took 6 weeks to get to a whole 10mg.

If you can take a 1/4 or 1/2 and see how you feel. Best of luck to you.
