I'm in a research MRI study with about 50 other people at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit the MRI is the same as any other MRI it's just the computer is different it takes thinner images of the brain.Project title is Analysis of brain structural changes in different stages of Multiple Sclerosis. I was a litttle nervous as this was my first closed MRI my neuro(by the way I just love her she's great)she said do you want a little pill to make sleepy and I said ok and took one. I had to go see her first to sign consent forms,and then went to the basement for my MRI everything went fine it didn't bother really at all,I even opened my eyes a couple of times and after about 1 hour it was over.I don't go back for another research MRI until next year and then the studies over. Maybe there be able to find something else out about how MS affects the brain. Take care everybody.

I'm glad too that I had a good experience so next year I won't be worried about it. I just hope and pray when I see my neuro next month for the results that my MRI will be stable with no new lesions I hope and pray.

I always take a little "something" before my MRI's. It makes it so much easier as I am so claustrophobic. The next time you have one done it will be easier as you had such a good experience and I am sure the little something helped too.

The place where I always have mine scheduled has two MRI machines, one of them is a mobile one. I didn't object when they asked me if it was OK to use that one. I didn't know that the building wasn't well insulated and it didn't have capabilities for music. So I was all on my own. I was glad that I dressed with sweatpants.

I have had MRI's in a closed machine, open flair, sitting up, does not matter, I have an anxiety attack! Medicated or not, panic! I can feel my palms starting to sweat just thinking about it!

The problem is, not so much the machine. Sitting up is wonderful however, no matter what, they enclose my head and that means anxiety of the panic variety every time. Plus, I cannot see a dang thing without my glasses on. That just adds to the freaking out.

I'm not claustrophobic so it's never bothered me. My Neuro only uses one imaging location and it's a closed MRI so I don't really have a choice. I just close my eyes and could just about go to sleep (even through all the banging and clanging) except for the technician interrupting with "are you still doing OK?"!!
