Sometimes, for me, the spasm will start in the foot and go right up to the hip. There is nothing other than slow stretching that helps. DBF wanted to message my foot but the shear touch caused more pain. Stretching regularly as well as during the hard core spasm helps me the most. (The little non painful spasms that I get throughout the day I don't bother doing anything about.) I also take Epsom salt baths which help tremendously. You could try taking one before bed time and see if that helps you. |
I have that problem too at times. Recently I have had spasms that have lasted more than 20 minutes and wake me up from sleeping. I cannot move my leg at all even though the cramps are in my calf muscle.
The muscle literally ripples up and down the back of my leg the whole time and the pain is excruciating. When I have them like that I have to work up to being able to get out of bed and stand up. They continue throughout the night any time I move my leg. This has been going on for a while now and I have increased my Baclofen up to 5X a day at 20 mg and now I am taking 0.5 Klonopin at bedtime. The last few days the spasms have been much better. I no longer sleep through the night now, ever. That really stinks. Hope you get some relief soon. I did also some stretching and yoga moves when I could but for many days even touching the leg or resting it on anything brought new spasms. Best, Weeble:) |
My left leg, sleeping, sitting, reclining, at computer spazs up. knee draws leh up, hard to get down. Foot goes into spasm - pointing , stiff, thigh muscle gets hard, hurts!!! Last night it hurt, spazed but didn'y wake fully but thought I can always turn it off? I knew something like remote worked but couldn't remember (1/2 aasleep remember) Then got really scared cognition was going, couldn't remember how!! Thought of waking DH and asking him. Thanks goodness I feel back asleep. He would have been so confused. I'm not ready to add more medications yet.

I had the same thing yesterday when I got out of the car from driving 2+ hours. I took my pain pill when I went to bed and feels so much better this morning.
I find that it helps to explain it here first, then tell my PCP just what I said here and she is good at knowing what I am talking about. Good Luck and keep us posted on what your PCP has to say. |
I've dealt with the leg and hand cramps along with stiffness and pain for a few years now. They got worse over time. I started Baclofen at 10 mg TID and tizanidine at bedtime.
Today I started my increased dose. I am at 20 mg TID. AS soon as it kicked in, I wanted to go back to bed. I know this will pass. I also noted that I put my socks on for the first time in MONTHS without my leg going into a cramp. My hands don't hurt and I have been doing a lot of fine hand stuff all morning. Like Yabbit, I drove and walked a lot yesterday and when I came home my hands and legs were spazzing like crazy. I woke up repeatedly through the night to get up and walk off leg cramps. My hands were curled with cramps and I actually had to get out the heating pad for some relief. I gave in and did it today. I figure as our favorite Doctor Mary stated so succinctly one time "Better living through chemistry! If they didn't want to help us, they wouldn't have invented drugs" I'm taking the help. I can't do it alone. In this case drugs AREN'T bad. |
leg pain, god i know that way too well. It sucks and I have had to the point where I have to use my wheelchair to get around. I have done lots of stretches especially first thing in the morning. My doc. put me on a nerve drug called gabapentin, I take 1600 mg a day. It changed my legs from hurting to numbing, which at first was hard to get use to but now seems normal.
Legs still hurt if I try to walk too much (which is not that much at all) or if I have a relapse in the middle of the night. I take tyn. if that dont work than I take t3's and if that dont work than I take morphine. leg pain sucks and I am sorry than you have that as a symtom as well. like a said you can try stretching as well as maybe heat or cold. hope this helps |
