Default I punched a guy's car this afternoon

Yes, you read that right. Me. When (if) I tell me kids, they'll never believe it.

I had just left work. I was exhausted, my legs were buzzing, my ankle was swollen like a sausage, and it looked like a long way home pushing my brand new rollator (Speed Buggy).

Bob and I crossed the street to pick up a jug of milk at the country store. Here was a station wagon parked right smack across the ramp that is the entrance to the store. There was about 18" of space if you went around the back of the car, and going around the front there was just enough room to juggle and wiggle the walker around to get onto the ramp.

The hatch was open, so I figured, "Well, somebody quickly grabbing a sack of feed or something, no biggie." But when I got in the store, it was a YOUNG guy, a salesman or something. He couldn't help but see I was pushing a piece of durable medical equipment, for pete's sake, but he never apologized or even acknowledged that I had to maneuver around his stupid car.

When we were leaving, he was still parked there, and I had to jostle my buggy around his car again.

Now, I could have stepped off the other end of the porch, or even picked up my buggy. But my daughter-in-law, who is in a wheelchair, couldn't have. Nor could my late sister-in-law, who had muscular dystrophy.

I don't know what came over me, but just as I was squeezing past the front of his car, I kind of slugged his fender with the side of my fist. CLONK! I thought my husband was going to have a stroke. I felt a lot better afterward, and I hope he saw me. So there.

I hope he saw you too! I saw some young kid do the same thing. All he did was run in to Walgreen's for a 12 pack but he blocked the ramp! If it were them that had difficulty walking or in a wheelchair, they'd do the same as you if not raise Holy Heck to the driver.

Good for you!

I would have done the same thing.
I hope he saw you.

What an ignorant person.

I'm glad you did something.

I applaud you and thank goodness hubby was there in case this shmuck decided to come after you. Why did hubby almost have a stroke? Jim usually has to calm me down before I take off after someone. lol

I think there are still many MANY people who don't know about the ADA and access. That guy probably thought the curb cut was for him to unload his sales stuff!

Awareness should be taught in schools and in driving school. There should be regular public service announcements on television during NORMAL hours...NOT at 3:00 a.m., and the existing laws should be enforced AND enforceable.

The fines should be bigger and there should be more curb cuts and parking spaces and accessible toilets.

We are further along than we were twenty years ago, but there's still a LONG way to go.

The receptionist at my doctors office was parked in the only remaining handicapped parking place when I went for my appt this week using it to load boxes she was taking home....she didn't look a bit remorseful as I had to go park across the street!

I don't know- wouldn't it have embarrassed him more to go in and complain loudly about "someones" car is blocking the handicap access??

From watching many of the court TV shows -
you don't want to have to pay for damages if the person sees you hit their vehicle & they have a witness too!

much better to verbally complain about it and cause embarrassment to the perpetrator

I for sure would complain about a employee blocking access- especially at a drs office!
