Snoodles, I'm sorry you're having so much pain. I do think it's related to MS or whatever it is that we have.
I know how painful those muscle spasms can be. I've been having them in my legs for years, and in the last few months, the spasms have started in my neck, left arms and shoulder, and the left side of my rib cage (all the way around to the back.) I wake up in agony most mornings! Baclofen is the only thing that helps, and it's not doing as much as it used to anymore. I've increased my dosage by 20 mg in the past two months, but it barely keeps the pain under control. I've even had to take hydrocodone at times when I absolutely can't stand it anymore. (I hate taking hydrocodone as it makes me very nauseous, so the pain has to be really bad for me to make that choice.) I hope you get some relief soon. By the way, I have my yearly appointment with our doctor on June 24. I'm not expecting much from it, but I'd rather see her than the NP! |
Hugs, spasms stink!
When I get the big ones in my legs it is always at night. The bad ones last anywhere from 10-15-20 minutes long. I also cannot move my leg at all because it makes them start again. They are better now as I take Klonopin 0.5 mg and 40 mg of Baclofen before bedtime along with my mix of other meds. I try to stretch a little during the day if I feel tight. It's impossible to do so for me once they start. And it absolutely messes with my sleep if they happen at night. I found that putting heat on the back of my legs when I was lying down on the bed before sleeping seemed to help a bit. I have the myoclonic jerks in my legs but I am getting used to them during the day. I can take the Baclofen up to 5 times a day but I try not to use it unless I really have to do so during the day. I want that big bang of a punch for night time so I can sleep. I was having terrible sleep issues for about 5 weeks and part of it was due to the horrendous spasms. I can now mostly sleep through the night. Good luck, Weebs37 |
Thanks so much for all the replies and the support that you have given me.
Sorry it has taken so long for me to respond - sometimes it is hard for me to nd much free time for the boards. The spasms do continue, I only missed one night this week without having any. I did have it on my list to call my Neuro but just never did it. I'm a little frustrated with it all right now and just trying to deal with it. I do need to try the heat and/or warm soaks in the tub - at least that is not another chemical going in my body. 2 night ago I had the big ones, the ones that feel similar to childbirth cramps - only in your legs - that take your breath away and cause you to be immobile. It gets so old but I have seen that sadly - many here are in the same boat. In fact, it seems that more people than normal are complaining about this sort of thing right now. I'm wondering if the horrible outside heat is a factor in triggering more than normal. I'm a little whiney tonight too - sort of in a bad mood. :o Thanks again !!!! |
