I wonder if the odds are consistent with incidence of MS in the general obese diabetic population or if it was much higher in this trial, if the 2 on the drug actually developed MS because of the drug.

1047 patients didn't develop MS, which is probably hiding in the body long before the diet pill was popped into their mouths.

So in a population or 1050 patients, 3 developed MS, or 1 in 350.

Doesn't that seem far higher than the normal incidence of MS which is 1 in 700? This is double that incidence rate. Maybe populations of obese diabetics have a higher incidence of MS than the regular population, but I'm sure we would have seen some statistics saying that either being overweight or diabetic were risk factors. I don't know that I've read that.

I'm wondering if there's something in this pill that might be a clue to what triggers development of MS. One can hope, can't they?

My bet is that is is a coinsidence that two people were diagnosed with MS. Time will tell though.

It is weird, though, and does raise some questions.

Only two people on the drug were dx'd with MS. I think it's just coincidental.
