We're supposed to have one in MA, Sally, but I suspect it will be a few years before they get through with all the red tape.

I had a brain, c spine, and t spine, with and without contrast done at one time. I asked for a CD of the sounds! :)

I was terrified with the first MRI, but my husband held my toe and that helped. Then I learned to put a washcloth over my eyes. If I can't see I'm in the tube, I'm fine. The one exception to that is the MRI machine they had at our local clinic, which was 4 times as loud as any other I've experience. I could not tolerate the banging, and asked to be let out. Tech didn't care, so I was let out and left--neuro didn't care anyway, we had a local neuro who was sort of numb. But since then I've had more MRI's, both the open one to look at my knee and a closed one to see if I'd had a TIA. In both cases, the machines were quiet, and I was fine, with the washcloth over my eyes.
Where did they get that awful machine that's 4 times as loud as any other? From the Salvation Army used machine department? |
All of the MRIs that I've had have made a fair amount of noise...but I'm weird and am perfectly OK with the kind of fun Star Wars rhythm to it :D.
Mariel, I'm wondering if your "quiet" MRIs may have been CAT scans. With love Erika |
No no no Erika. All the MRI's I've had have caused noise, but this one was just so much noisier. I had not had a CAT scan until I went to Mayo 3 years ago, for a workup on the Polycythemia Vera. Since then I had another CAT scan when I fell down the stairs in Seattle. Both times there was no noise, but I saw an exploding light in my head during the CAT scan, which they said was impossible. Not impossible for me. I HATE CAT scans and I hope I don't fall down and have to have another one. The exploding light in my head made me nauseous.

Hi Dejibo
Have you tried to tame the fear with your favorite music? You can bring a CD to most of these places. I sing in my head to distract myself. Maybe you can ask for something to help settle you a bit. I will be thinking of you. ginnie

A Valium a day keeps the MRI nasties away...lol:)
|
I remember one time with my MRI I was able to visualize myself inside a video game. I never play video games so it was really strange. I didn't have any guidelines on what to do:p But it kept me occupied

Hi Sally
Florida, got it on the ballot for next Nov. election. I too hope this MM law passes. I don't know how my doctors feel about it right now either. I don't think they give personal opinions, until it is legal. If this passes, I will try it for PN etc. I am working with the election committee called F-Cam. At my age, I think I should be able to try something that "may work" Rather than pain killers which I really strive hard not to take. If there is any benefit to this stuff, folks should be able to decide for themselves what is right and wrong, what works and doesn't work. Take the TCH out of it, I don't care. Pain relief is the goal. Tax it, end of financial woes. ginnie

Be careful about how your governments regulate this issue.
We were doing fairly fine up here in Canada with provisions for medical use, that allowed people to grow it at home, or have someone grow it for them. Then the Federal Gov't got more involved and now a lot of people will be criminals under the new law, or will have to go without and suffer because they can not afford the Federally regulated prices. Hi Erika
You are very right about that. Went to a meeting today regarding this subject and the next election. Only three states have laws that are actually working. The other states are in various stages of "What do we do or don't do" with regulating it. Even if it passes, many steps through many agencies will have to compromise and come up with some kind of fair plan. Arizona passes, yet it isn't really available easily to those prescribed it. Education, and voting are next in this state. lots of confusion out there. It is still not legal with the feds. From what I understand more than 26 states have to legalize it before the Federal issues would consider changing the laws Nation Wide. I am going to a debate on Monday if I can handle the traffic. ginnie

Sorry that we've gone off topic for this thread, but this is how we do it in Canada...might give you some ideas for your debate Ginnie.
