Last night while watching TV I noticed I was starting to feel cold and put some socks on. Within a half hour I put a blanket over me and still felt cold. Then the spasticity started in the neck, shoulders, outer arms, back. I sat there shivering when my husband had on shorts and no shirt. I told him to please go heat up the bathroom and turn the shower on hot. When the room was nearly 95 degrees I got in the shower and stood there for 20 minutes. The hotter the water the better.
Finally I got out and put on my heavy winter housecoat and went to bed. About 5 hours later I finally started getting hot from all the coverings. I was sooooo cold that my muscles went into spasticity overtime. ![]() Today I was very tired.....fell asleep as a passenger in the car on our way to the inlaws house and slept 2 hours while I was there. My muscles still feel stressed, but not as bad. Anyone ever have something simular happen to them?

I only get this coldness in the wintertime myself. Never had it happen in the summer. Were you running a fever at all?
I hope you've since warmed up and aren't having the cold feeling. That sounds like it was atrocious.

Sounds like you may have been running a fever. You may also have experienced what is called a cold sweat. I get those every so often, especially at night if I am hot, then cold, etc. Or it could be a circulation issue. If it continues you should let your doctor know what's going on.

When I was in little girl's size 12 pants because of the MS I was cold on a 100 degree day w/humidity.
Heat makes me weak and now cold makes my stiffness increase and ache. I crawl under a heating blanket set on 'low' till I warm. Edited to say back then my temperature was a few degrees below normal. Last edited by 0357; 07-27-2008 at 11:10 PM. |

Hi Karilann,
My first thought would be a fever/perhaps infection of some sort, so I'd keep an eye on this occuring again. On the other hand, with MS our brains can have damage in the area that controls temperature: "Hypothalamus Functions: The hypothalamus is composed of several different areas and is located at the base of the brain. Although it is the size of only a pea (about 1/300 of the total brain weight), the hypothalamus is responsible for some very important functions. One important function of the hypothalamus is the control of body temperature. The hypothalamus acts as a "thermostat" by sensing changes in body temperature and then sending signals to adjust the temperature. For example, if you are too hot, the hypothalamus detects this and then sends a signal to expand the capillaries in your skin. This causes blood to be cooled faster. The hypothalamus also controls the pituitary." http://faculty.washington.edu/chudler/nsdivide.html I have not had it happen that on a very warm day that I feel THAT cold . . . but I have had many days when the temp wasn't particularly cool, yet I ached to the bones from spasticity. Cold is my #1 enemy. ![]() Cherie

Hi Karilann, Do you happen to be on Copaxone?? I get very similiar "chills" from Copaxone injections. Not every time, but at least 10 times a year. It usually hits me about 45 minutes after an injection.
I shake so hard, my hands and feet ache and I get muscle spasms in my back, abdomen, legs and arms. It usually lasts about an hour then just stops as quickly as it came on.
