Yeah. Both siblings have diabetes. One has thyroid problem. Other has DD w/ thyroid problem.

Dr's think there's a connection, probably. No solid evidence, though, so far as I know.

My endo did at least imply there was evidence in the connection -- I interpreted from this conversation that this can make us more vulnerable. However, it also brought up the question of why these why these things are expressed how they are and can differ even in family members.

We have diabetes and thyroid problems in my family, but I'm curious.

No I'm not our Curious Monkey! I should have said I'm inquisitive.

My father had terrible psoriasis, but I'd never heard it referred to as an autoimmune disease before. I notice several of you have mentioned it here as one of the autoimmunes.

I've done several searches, and the only autoimmune diseases I've been able to come up with are the following:

Hashimoto's thyroiditis
Pernicious anemia
Addison's disease
Type I diabetes
Rheumatoid arthritis
Systemic lupus erythematosus
Dermatomyositis
Sjogren syndrome
Lupus erythematosus
Multiple sclerosis
Myasthenia gravis
Reactive arthritis
Grave's disease
Celiac disease - sprue

Could you provide a link for me to look into please?

It's only been a recent thing regarding psoriasis being auto immune in nature. Here's one link. http://www.ehealthmd.com/library/pso...SO_causes.html

Thank you for that FinLady.

I find it interesting that they've added psoriasis to the list. It makes you wonder what other diseases should really be labelled autoimmune as well.

Wow! After reading this thread . . .maybe I don't have MS. LOL

Going back as far as 3 generations, no one in my family has/had an autoimmune disease. I don't have a large extended family either. My dad was an only child and had no cousins either. My mom was one of three with lots of cousins. Luck of the draw I guess.

I was, however, watching Nova Science Now last night and the had a little blurb on epigenetics. It was fascinating and really does explain why some people get one thing and others get something else. Additionally, it did explain why 1 identical twin would get something like MS and the other one doesn't get something like MS. Epigenome markers somehow were turned off.

I had watched another program on the same thing that was far more detailed than the one last night. Ok, I'm a science buff. lol

Only? I'd say that added to your MS is enough!
