I've only been approved for SSDI...not SSI. I should be eligible for Medicare in September of 2010. I've asked my former employer if they would consider letting me keep my insurance until then (I'd pay whatever premium they are now paying...just not COBRA cause that's too much) but I don't think they are going to allow it. :( I can't complain, though. They let me have it until the end of this year at no cost to me. I thought that was pretty generous.

I'll be fine....I just want to squeeze all I can out of it while I've got it!! :p The next two years should be fun....not!!! :D

COBRA is what your employer is paying for your health insurance, that is where they get the number.

I think this is a crock. If you are disabled and unable to work, you shouldn't be penalized because you are not 65. IMO. Good luck finding something.

I agree. They penalize you for anything they can think of. I wonder what they'll penalize us for once we reach 65??!! :eek:
