I am once again in the 1% category with this drug. Gee what a surprise. :(

Last night was a wild ride with Lyrica...not sure I want to continue it. Or maybe I can get the pharmacist to give me the 25mg capsules in exchange for the 50mg capsules and see if that will help. And my doc wants me to take this drug 3 times a day! I think not...I just read the entire medication insert for this drug and the clinical trial information. Max dose is 300mg a day.

Two of the "infrequent" (1/100 to 1/1000) side effects in all the clinical studies for lyrica (pregabalin) are abnormal dreams and hallucinations. Well...as I said, wild night last night.

Reminded me of the first time I had IVSM and they infused the 1000mg over 30 minutes. I hallucinated for 12 hours! When the nurse showed up the next day for infusion number 2, I was scared to death. I thought maybe not walking and not peeing was much better than hallucinating. She slowed the infusion down to 1.5 hours and I didn't have that problem again.

I don't like having people walk through my bedroom and touch me and stand over me. It was too spooky. I woke up twice screaming and even checked to make sure the doors to the house were locked. It was so real I swear I could feel someone take the covers off me and I could feel them when I reached out to push them away.:eek::eek:

OK, that's just pure freaky Cheryl! I wouldn't take it anymore until they can lower it or find something else. Whoa.

I have to pick up a prescription today so I am going to talk to my pharmacist. He's a great guy. I will see what he has to say. I was pretty tired last night and I am still fighting this cold. Who knows....

Kitty 11-01-2008 12:32 PM

Geeze.....I don't think I'd take it anymore...period. That's just a little too scary for me.

Good luck whatever you decide to do, FG.

Sometimes the side effects of the stuff that's supposed to make us feel better are worse then the sx of our disease!

Natalie8 11-01-2008 01:57 PM

Hey Cheryl, Wow, that sounds absolutely horrifying!! I'm like you -- I always get every possible side effect and even the ones that are rare. I'm too sensitive to meds and I know you are too. Maybe if you try a lower dose? But I'm not even sure I'd want to do that given what you've gone through!! I hope you're feeling better soon.

Desinie 11-01-2008 03:59 PM

Hi Cheryl,
I'm right there with you when it comes to side effects of most meds I've tried. I'm sure that was terrifying and I wouldn't want to take it anymore either. Hope you find something that helps. Feel better soon!

Gazelle 11-01-2008 04:15 PM

Now maybe it was the cabana boy and he was just checking in on you and you pushed HIM away??? OH boy that IS hallucinating! And you're a whole lot sicker than I thought. :D

Seriously, that doesn't sound like much fun but you are a cheap date. ;)

Talk to the pharmacist. I think you're not going to be taking this very much longer, wimpy med taker.

tovaxin_lab_rat 11-01-2008 06:14 PM

I talked to the pharmacist and she said that she'd had a couple of patients complain about the same side effect...

Choices were 1) stop the medications until I can talk to my doc on Monday 2) continue it and hope that I don't have a recurrence tonight 3) swap out a couple of the 50mg capsules for some 25mg capsules and take a lower dose tonight and see what happens.

Door #3 is what I chose for tonight.

Monday I will call my doc because she also said I need to report to her about the double vision. Blurry vision is one thing, but double vision should be reported. Maybe the lower dose will not be so bad...keeping my fingers crossed b/c it is helping with the pain.

I hate being such a med wuss....dang it!

Taffy 11-01-2008 10:08 PM

I'm scared!!!!

Now you are seriously med sensitive!

It is because you are too skinny!

I hope the lower dose helps!

Meanwhile...I am the one under the blanket with my doors locked!

tovaxin_lab_rat 11-02-2008 08:19 AM

Took the lower dose last night. I did a lot better. No double vision, no nightmares, and I didn't fall asleep within 20 minutes. Now let's see how my legs do today.

:Heart:my pharmacist!

Taffy 11-02-2008 09:56 PM

Now that is great news!:Dancing-Chilli:

SandyC 11-03-2008 11:49 AM

Cheryl, how are you today?

Jim and I are going to talk to his doc about the baclofen pump. We found a presentation on muscle spasms in person's with ms through Kitty's thread and it sounds like the right fit for Jim.

tovaxin_lab_rat 11-03-2008 11:57 PM

Sinus infection. Started antibiotics today.

I've readjusted the lyrica dose and seem to be doing ok. There is no way I can take this med during the day and function. Between the double vision and the drowsiness, I'd be a danger to anyone around me, let alone myself!!! The pain level seems to tolerable.

I posted something on Kell's thread about the baclofen pump.

Taffy 11-05-2008 08:56 PM

Sinus infection! You just need to blow your nose! But not to hard...you will blow all that stuff into the vacant holes of your brain!:D

SallyC 11-05-2008 09:45 PM

Noooooooooooooooo, not another sinus infection..:(

Feel Better, soon..

NurseNancy 11-05-2008 11:20 PM

havn't you had about a zillion sinus infections?
what's up with that.

glad you're working out your lyrica dose.
i can't believe i'm on so much and it doesn't affect me.

SandyC 11-06-2008 11:42 AM

Cheryl, how's the sinus infection? I hope by now your feeling better. Jim started an extra dose of Sinemet but we haven't noticed any difference yet. We have hope but honestly the only thing really working is marijuana. Gosh, why can't they just legalize it for medicinal use?

Yes, I have had about a bazillion sinus infections! I am prone to them and always have been! When I saw the ENT doc earlier this year he said that I have had so much sinus bone damage that I will be prone to them! Great....

I am med sensitive...what can I say! I am glad I am getting the dose worked out too b/c I don't like that icky side effect! So far, I've had 3 nights of no hallucinations!!! The double vision and the drowsiness are there but I can deal with that b/c I am taking it at night!

But hey...tylenol 3 makes me drowsy!
