Default clonazepam vs xanax

I have been taking xanax, and a friend takes clonazapam. She swears hers is longer acting, and would serve me better. I guess I didnt mind too much about short acting, since I take it and go to bed.

what is your opinion? which do you prefer? which gives you better relief?

What are you taking it for? How much do you take? What results are you trying to achieve?

I take 1 mg of clonazepam for RLS. It works great.

The only time I have taken Xanax is for sleep. It knocks me completely out.

I am not a doctor and don't play one on this forum...this is just my experience with these two medications!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I also only take Xanax when my legs won't stop jerking and it knocks me out too. I wouldn't be able to function during the day if I took it then.

I take it for anxiety. I can take anywhere from 0.25 to 0.5 up to 4 times a day if I want it. I have problems with anxiety, and or panic attacks, and as long as I rest, and dont fill my belly with sugar, and stress I seem to do ok. My friend seems to think I need the clonazapam.

what say you?

I take clonazepam. It helped my anxiety, me to quit smoking cold turkey, my bouts of insomnia, but more importantly broke through my burning pain from TN like nothing else could....

I can't say enough good about it, other than, I do feel it adds to my dry mouth situation (could be the Copaxone too though), can make me hungry, is very habit forming.

My neuro nearly hit the roof when he heard I was taking it, my GP prescribes it. She only prescribes me 60 pills per 30 days, so most I can take is essentially 2 x .5 mg for 1mg daily at my 'allowed' dose.

18-50h is the half life of Clonazepam. It is still in your system the following day, so you can feel fatigued waking up big time.

That's my experience with it. Neuro wants me off the stuff. I think it's been wonderful.

My neuro rx'd the clonazepam.

Back about 2 months ago when I was having severe spasms, the clinical trial doc had me take .25 mg two times during the day, 6 hours apart. I couldn't take it even that amount during the day b/c of the drowsiness. But it's a well established fact that I am a drug wimp!

Dej -- you might want to try it to see if it helps. I am the one who has all the problems with meds...if there is a side effect, I am mostly like to experience it and I really have had no problem with this drug.

It works for me but like any meds, they don't work for everyone. I don't have any anxiety or panic problems so I really can't tell you how it would work for that medical problem. I just know that it's the only drug that has addressed the RLS for me and the spasms along with Sinemet! That combo seems to work for me. And I have tried other meds with no luck.

Good luck ... keep us posted!

Like Av8 said, I'm a classic side effect queen when it comes to medications, and other than the suspected dry mouth from Clonazepam (and I have experienced http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradoxical_reaction a couple times), it's been overall tolerable compared with the other stuff I've tried.

It definitely took care of my burning mouth that I had (which for the most part, thank goodness, is gone... yet still lingers a little now) unlike anything else, and for those that have burning mouth syndrome (which can actually be seen with MS due to brain stem lesions apparently), Clonazepam/Klonopin is the only medication that many will tell you has resulted in relief.

Before I quit smoking btw, I was taking ONLY .25mg in the evening, and .25mg at bedtime. I'm trying to ween myself back to this dose slowly now that my ATN/TN pain is starting to calm down, and the burning is not so bad.

I started taking .25 of clonazepam at betime a few weeks ago along with ambien and neurontin (900 mg), and I still have trouble sleeping most nights. It does quiet my thoughts most nights if that makes any sense. I am allowed to take it up to 3 times per day, but only take it at night. It does seem to help with spasticity also. Just like with any med, everyone is different.

I am just so freaky grouchy lately. I know I have anxiety issues, but I think I need to fix some of the things I have on my plate before I try new drugs. maybe quit some of the projects I have going. I just feel sooooo stressed.

I have students in the house, and I have a class going on. (I teach shamanistic studies, alternative health, and healing...) so I am feeling more than a bit overwhelmed. December 7th the last student will go home, so that will help greatly. Filled my pockets with money, and I love what I do, I just think I wasnt prepared for the intensity this year. Some students. are sooooo neeedy. I have to tell the every tiny itty bitty detail in the greatest of color.

I think once I start knocking some things off my plate, I will start to feel better. The hubby is away for another 3 days, and I am dealing with alot right now.

I think I will try a clonaz and see where it take me. My MD has offered me a small script to try if I wish to change.

Dej, when you destress, you're welcome to come 'practice' your teaching on me! That sounds so cool, but I'm sure it's demanding.
