i have a scooter and it has to be charged every wk.
if the charge runs out and the batteries die they can't be recharged.
my batteries (2) run $300.

just last yr my charge switch was bad and they ran down. 6 mo old batteries and i had to buy new ones. OY. and they're supposed to last 1-3 yrs.

also, you need to think about how you're going to use this scooter.
for instance, my van has a lift that will lift the scooter into the car so i can use it shopping if i want.

there's a lot to consider. but if it's a good almost new decent scooter they can run a couple thousand $$$.

cindy knows a lot about scooter.

MEdicare paid for my mother to have a NEW battery for her scooter every TWO years. she has an RX for the scooter, and under the terms of medicare, its an expense.

Call your Medicare office, and ask if its covered for you.

Thanks for all the info. I don't really need a scooter right now so I know my doc wouldn't right a script ofr it. I rent one for vacations, city zoo, etc. If it's a one day thing it's $50, over 3 days I think it's $100. We always rent form Freedom Medical. So that's part of the problem for me right nwo. I don't really need it except for vacations, etc. But if it's a good scooter ofr $300 plus the cost of a battery, I'm not sure if I could turn it down. Plus if it's fairly portable I know my Mom could go to the mall. She absolutley refuses to let anyone take her scooter and put it in the back of their truck and being held with bungee cords or whatever. So she hasn't been to the mall in ages.

I'd certainly go look at it and hope for the best. It's a great buy on any scooter that runs.

I was told to never let my batteries run down or it will ruin them. I don't if that is the case with all of them but my guess is most of them are that way. I think I have had them about 5 years now.

CHECK THE CHARGING CORD!

My sister used to grab my mothers by the cord and YANK it out of the charger hole, or the wall socket. it busted the head of the charger plug on the scooter itself. So ALWAYS use your hand to gently rock the charger plug off the scooter. If this person wasnt careful and used the cord as a yanking tool, it can cause damage.

Maybe your MD will write the "occasional use" rx for the scooter, if you tell him how you are using it.
