nope - don't like it (stem cell research unless it's from umbilical cords)- it has to be carefully watched and I doubt the watchers are up to the task -

I'd rather see it come from the stem cells in cord blood, rather than from embryos. I'm all for stem cell research, but I've been changing my views and opinion on abortion recently.

I think that when babies are born, the mothers should have the choice of saving the cord blood for future use if their kid gets sick, or they should be offered the choice to donate the cord blood for research or to help someone else.

Im so torn over this stuff. I believe in pro choice, but I personally could never do it. I see that so many abortions happen in this country, and we are currently throwing those babies in the trash. Wouuldnt saving those babies to research and find cures for a disease be a better ending than the trash can? I am NOT advocating that women line up to start donating their embryoes, but if they are already in existance, and being wasted, then isnt that just as much of a shame as doing it in the first place? I am so torn on this issue. I want research to find cures for diabetes, and MS, and I want those with injured spinal cords to walk, but I dont want babies being used to do it. Since these babies are just being tossed, why not bring at least some value to their unlived lives?

I could go round and round in my head all day.

Well this should bring up a lot of discussion..rightly so.

Hundredes of embryos are made every day for those trying to have a baby.. and the rest are frozen or destroyed.

Think about it..you can not have a baby until its implanted in the womb..or some simulation of the womb.

ALL cells are LIVING.. but each has a purpose for sustaining life.

So the fertilized eggs that are thrown away.. no one raises protests..THOSE are the cells to be used to create new life..and give someone seriously ill..or with a chronic illness have a chance at living well.

Just another way to think about it....another way of giving life..

Using the cord blood I am not against. I think that is great if they
can help cure someone from what they find out with the cord blood.

I am totally, totally against using embryos. They are human lives.
What gives them the right to kill these poor babies that don't have a
chance to fight for themselves.

We have to fight for them.

I do want to see cures for all the diseases, but not by using human
life.

To me these scientists are trying to play "GOD" What are they going
to try to do next?

I feel also that there is no reason for anyone to get an Abortion. There
is so much help out there for these women. Also no reason to dump them
in the garbage. So many places to drop off the babies and no questions
asked.

WELL THIS IS JUST ME EVERY LIFE IS PRECIOUS

Those fertilized eggs could be donated to women who dont have their own eggs but have perfectly working equipment otherwise.

It's controversial, but it could save millions of lives down the road, and millions of eventually to be born babies who could develop any of the conditions in this research.

While Obama's at it, he should see about finally getting marijuana legalized for medicinal use country-wide.

I'm all for stem cell research. Its the cellular level. As for the morality of it, I'm Catholic and I don't know that the Church knows how God feels about this type of research at the cellular level. I don't know how I feel about it so how can they be any clearer as to God's feelings on the issue. I mean, if He didn't want us to do it why allow us the technology and why not spell it out in plain view. Why all the ambiguity?

I understand its a very political subject and has implications regarding abortion. I am against abortion but I don't know that the two are as related as most say. So I cannot outlaw it or condemn those who want to try to use this science to better society. Of course, it has its limits and I don't want us harvesting humans for use as we see fit.

Sounds hopeful, but two wrongs don't make it right.
