Crazy Time fillers... any suggestions?

I have been unemployed for a little over a month and I am feeling more and more bored. I know quite a few of you are on SSDI... I was wondering if any of you had suggestions of activites or hobbies I could pick up to pass time. I don't have a vehicle (actually I own my truck... but the fiance takes it to work) so I can't go anywhere...
Im in the middle of what I think is an exacerbation so I don't have a lot of energy but my brain is totally bored and I am sick of staring at the TV and the internet...

I guess maybe I should look into getting a job.... or something... don't really want one right now.. but man oh man I am bored outta my gourd! lol

I crochet and knit. I read. Occasionally I'll sew something.

In the summertime, I like to do photography. I take pictures of flowers or anything that I think is interesting. I do some in the wintertime too, but it's COLD in the winter, so I dont go outside that much then

I love to quilt and cross stitch but unfortunately couldn't do either of these while in an exacerbation. I love to do the 'search a word' books and the 'fill it in' books. I think you need to do anything to strengthen the brain. Now for me the online game Breaking bicks ll is great also. I never liked doing it but journaling is also very good. It can also help later on when you read your thoughts during the 'down times'. Just stay with us here.

One word.

VOLUNTEER!

There are many many things throughout many many towns that could use your help. One day a week, or 5 days a week. As long as you are upfront with them, and tell them there are days when you just cant do it, they will take all the help they can get. many car pool to get to such places, or others volunteer to give rides to those that need to get there.

Food banks. stock shelves. help others shop
Nursing homes. Read to the elderly. help them knit, or do puzzles.
churches. Help in sunday school, babysit while other attend services.
Hospitals pass out magazines, DVDs, puzzles, or toys to the kids.
Local Library Read to kids. have a story hour. funny voices. wear a costume.
local schools. Be a home work helper.
Town Hall Welfare officer. Help them organize shoe/coat/or clothing drives.
Volunteer at the animal shelter. Walk a dog, snuggle a kitty.

Take an online class. There are TONS to chose from. Wighexpressions.org teaches HTML, Paint shop pro and other graphic art stuff. If you dont like art, pick any subject, and google an online class for it.
You can knit, and donate the hats/scarfs/mittens.
Organize a closet, or a pantry.
scrap book. take all those photos and put them in books.
sew. learn to make your own clothes. places that sell sewing machines offer classes frequently. From basic to advanced. yeah, its supposed to be a comeon to buy a new machine, but if you already own one, dont be tempted.
Learn a new language on line. Many local libraries offer free online courses. Google YOUR library and see what they offer online.
NAP! OMG Naps are sooo important! take one.

Creating online scrapbooks and storybooks not only fills the time for me when I'm resting, but makes me feel so productive.

I think it would be cool to create a coffee table storybook about "My Life with MS" to help explain to my family what the journey has been like for me. A great way for them to understand.

Scrapbooks help preserve our memories and that is so important to me and to my kids. They love seeing themselves in our books, it builds their self esteem.

That is a great idea! If you decide to do this please let us know how it was accepted by your family!

Finding ways to keep myself occupied was a challenge at first. I went from working nearly 60 hours a week to being home full-time. It was quite an adjustment.

I try to exercise my brain as much as I can with online games and puzzles and also the paperback versions. I read alot, too.

Your local library is a great resource for movies, books, magazines, etc. and it doesn't cost anything.

I get tired of television, too, and there are days when I never even turn mine on until it's time for the news to come on.
