I've had MS for several years and was told it was Primary Progressive as I never had relapses..Well, starting shortly before Thanksgiving and lasting till the beginning of February, I had what was (for me) the mother of all relapses..Couldn't walk without a cane, couldn't drive more than a short distance, couldn't feel anything on the right side of my body. I was put on oral pred with a taper the first week of Feb, and the sx were nearly gone in just a few days..I hate 'em, but they do work.

I'm not taking the steroids for ON. I don't have ON, nor have I ever, thankfully. What I'm taking is the Medrol Dose Pack alone and in itself is a tapering dose. I'm not on IV steroids.

Desinie,

I used oral prednisone once in "86" and once in "87." Oral prednisone and ACTH were the only options back then.

I don't like steroids and have choosen not to use them for subsequent exacerbations.

Did the oral prednisone help? I really don't know The first time I was give oral prednisone was after my diagnosis, I had been in an exacerbation through the diagnostic process. Once oral prednisone was started my exacerbation lasted another 4 to 6 weeks.

The second exacerbation w/oral prednisone lasted 4 to 6 weeks.
My third exacerbation I waited out, no steroids and it lasted 4 to 6 weeks....go figure
