Below is my summary of the common Herpes family of viruses:
Herpes simplex virus HSV-1 Oral herpes(fever blisters) Herpes simplex virus HSV-2 Genital herpes Varicella-zoster virus(VZV) Chickenpox, shingles Epstein-Barr virus(EBV) Infectious mononucleosis Cytomegalovirus(CMV) "Mono-like" illness, Infections in Immune-compromised patients Human herpesvirus-6 HHV-6 Roseola, "mono-like" illness ----Possible MS and chronic fatigue syndrome Human herpesvirus-7 HHV-7 "Mono-like" illness, pityriasis Rosea(maybe) Human herpesvirus-8 HHV-8 Kaposi's sarcoma I hope it helps clarify the HHV subject. It is my opinion that any one, or especially a series, of these HHV family viruses can either triger MS or a serious "flare up". I think taking Valtrex will NOT treat or cure these virus attacks. What Valtrex does is cause these Viruses to stay inside their protective shell when inactive and NOT go into the active state as long as they see some Valtrex is around. I took Valtrex 500 mg for about 8 years. But since I have retired I have not taken any. Stress has a lot to do with these viral attacks and I just no longer have a stressful life. I might start taking it again. I drink some GREAT wines and have a rigerous amount of supplements that I think protect me. jackD

I had mono for 2 weeks very severely when I was 19. I had enough energy to get out of bed and walk around for 15 minutes a day. My body took a complete beating. I'd never been so sick in my life, and I can honestly say I've never been so sick since.
Dx'ed at 31 with MS, but the symptoms I believe began showing up around the age of 24/25. Oh yeah, I had chickenpox twice as a young girl. My mom referred to me as the sickly child. Always some new viral infection. Back to back at times even.
