Has anyone ever had Optic Neuritis without any pain, but with visual changes?

I had ON without pain. I just had loss of vision in the central region of my left eye.

I'm not sure if it was an actual exacerbation of ON, or just a little flare from the heat and allergies last year, but I had extremely dim vision in my left eye last spring for a month or two. No eye pain that I can remember, but it felt like I had a really dark sunglass lens over one eyeball for nearly a month.

I had one with pain way back in 02 when I was originally mis diagnosed, and freaked out, and then back in 07 with no pain. I was amazed when they told me it was ON. it didnt feel anything like the first time. It is possible, but weird, just like many other things about this disease.

I think it all depends upon the location of the lesion in the optic areas of the brain.
If the lesion is on the Optic Nerves then PAIN would be expected. If the lesion is in the Optic Radiation nerve area then pain would not be expected. jackD . .
