Does it mount to the floor or to the couch, that will be the defining factor, if you ask me.

You could have SIL put blocks under the feet to elevate it to a better height for you. I did that on all my dad's primary furniture after his hip replacement and it worked perfectly. In fact, he asked to leave them even afterward because it was so much easier for him. (I made new, better-looking ones and stained them to match, he never noticed it, but I did. )

I thought of those blocks, but thought it would be too much trouble. But, you know what, I'll bet my Hunks could come up with something safe for me.

Boy, Sal, that does not look like it could be sufficiently stable for the kind of pulling and pushing we do. It would worry me terribly if you used that thing as you've described.

Sorry I'm just getting here now so haven't seen your other post yet about recliners. The new one I just got is a Golden, wing back with button-back design. The material is different than the sample I chose, guess that was the old version, this feels like chennille and it is a lift chair. I love the lift part and the electric recline, sit up feature. Like Cindy mentioned, it is hard (impossible) to "scoot" around in it so in order to sit up straight with my butt up against the back, it has to be in a "lift" position where I stand against it, press the button and automatically sit down.

My old chair was a regular Lazy Boy but it was a wing back that didn't look like a recliner. The material was "satiny" but I got so I couldn't reach the ends of the arms to pull the chair up. Then I couldn't scrunch myself to the edge of the chair to hoist myself up and grab for an arm of my powerchair. But.......I have to say for me it was more comfortable sleeping in it as my feet went up higher to help with my swollen legs. Didn't get a backache either. Slept in my bed for one night recently and ended up having a backache for two days after.

This new one is like a chaise with no division between the seat and leg rest when elevated. The old one just had a piece of material under the divide so I could sometimes get my heels to hook on the edge of the footrest to bend my knees for a change of position. This new one I can't do that.

Of course it's treated with Scotch Guard and I always put a waterproof bed pad down first. For some reason the bladder issue is worse at night and there's no way I could ever make it to the bathroom in time.

It probably would be a good idea if you could manage to "test sit" a few different brands before you buy one. For me it wasn't possible since I have no way of getting out, but I know there are quite a few different makes and models out there.

As far as that thing you're thinking of getting to help you up, I wouldn't trust it! When our legs no longer work, we need something REALLY STRONG and stable to hold us up!!!

As for the Lift Chair Recliner....I'm still a ponderin..

I have a lift chair recliner and it is worth the money. It is the only chair in my house, besides the hard dining room chairs, that I can get off of. A lot of stores that sell disability equipment have the chairs, so you can try them out before you buy one.

everytime I lift the leg of my recliner that dang cat flies under there, and I am terrified of crushing one under it. I did that many years ago, and it traumatized me. They think its their playhouse.

I bought a lift chair because when I get sick I cannot get out of the bed to get to the bathroom. My lift chair reclines to a 180' angle, so it is possible to sleep in it and then press the button to be lifted up in order to get into a wheelchair or use a walker using minimal leg strength.

You should get to a store that has a variety and test them out for your needs. I really need mine and would have to sit in my wheelchair all the time if I didn't have it.
