I take the plunge tonight, news at 11.

For those unfamiliar with the medication, it's basically synthetic THC, the good stuff in marijuana.

My employer refuses to cover Sativex under my benefits plan, even at the highest level or on exception. Pain doctor's not impressed, so he's going to bat with them, but in the meantime we're going to try the synthetic (would be nice to have the vaporizer.. maybe eventually, but at $500+ a month, I'd need insurance!).

I've read good things about this stuff, so we'll see how it works for me. I'm supposed to take it at bedtime, which is still a few hours away. Good thing I got in to see him again, as my head pain's been a roaring mess, especially the last few days.

So I'll let you guys know... has anyone else taken this before for pain with MS?

I will, just took my first nightly dose!

I can't imagine this will be crazier than smoking the stuff, and I have plenty of experience with that from the past.

Actually.. I've already felt some benefit.

Yes, it made me 'euphoric' a bit when I took it, but it was ok. I could still think and function normally. Nothing over the top.

I woke up earlier than normal (had another appointment today) and I didn't wake up to the ever-present burning pain. Pain yes, the burning edge was not there! Joy!

So I'm continuing to take this tonight. I take my Clonazepam still as well, no problems there.

Side effects listed dry mouth, but I have dry mouth regardless, and I didn't really notice an increase. Not enough that I couldn't cure that with water or some sugar free gum.

So far, so good!

LOL!! Well, I actually think this is FDA approved in the US (at least for cancer patients/HIV & nausea). The information about the drug is that it can be beneficial in other conditions like fibromyalgia and MS for pain/spasticity.

Finding a doctor to prescribe it may be more challenging than finding one to prescribe LDN though.

Laura, I'm glad you are finally getting some relief and it continues to work for you.

I'll stick with the real thing. The crop is in and growing nicely. This year I'm growing 2 strains. G-13 which was originally developed by the US Govt. and another called Chronic. Both have very high THC levels so it doesn't take much. I should be harvesting at the end of August. Using a home made lightbulb vaporizer is keeping my smoke intake down .
