Sorry it took me so long to get back. I'm typing this on my blackberry with one eye closed ; ). I'm still doped up but not as bad as yesterday. Everything has been ruled out except ON. I'm starting IVSM soon. I despise the carp.

This has been one of my worst hospital and doctor experiences ever. I've spent so much time in tears that both eyes are swollen. I'm okay though.

I'll tell you all about it once I get home. Hopefully tomorrow . Thanks for the :hug:s.

So sorry Joelle. Get that carp swimming in a straight line again and get better quickly!

Joelle, you WILL get through this. I look forward to reading your update and hope your physical state and spirits are better very soon.

ON Lesions/MRI

I discussed this again with my neuro-op and told her that I'd now come across 3 people who did not present lesions. Her response was that lesions will always be present in an MRI of the orbits when the ON is in the acute stage and that it's when a lesion does not present that other diagnostic tests are necessary. My first orbital MRI lit up like a Christmas tree -- now I understand why I never had to have an EVP.

Anyway, as promised, this is one of the things I checked again and that's what she said. Just the messenger.

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well, Joelle. Are your eyes swollen from whatever is going on, or from crying? :(

There are several tests that can be done to try to destinguish ON from other eye problems. An opthamologist on another forum always directs people to this link as the most reliable:

http://www.jandoerffel.de/on.htm

I have heard of people who had ON, and didn't know it until their nerve showed palor in testing (that happened to me, years ago), but not that they can't see the ON when it is active and they test for it. They might "conclude" it was ON when we already have a dx of MS . . . but I'm not sure how accurate that conclusion might be.

I'll ask my N-O next time I'm in too ...
