Default Could MS Doctors Be Treating The Wrong Disease?

"The alternative theory, upheld by Drs. Peter Behan and Abhijit Chaudhuri states that multiple sclerosis is not caused by the immune system attacking myelin (as is commonly believed); instead, multiple sclerosis is caused by cells (called astrocytes) malfunctioning."

Default What???

This is their

CONCLUSION

"After six decades of autoimmune and EAE-based research, the time has come for a change in direction. For basic scientists, the challenge is to develop a new animal model of MS that replicates both demyelination and neurodegeneration. Solvent-induced demyelination might be such a model, in view of the association between solvent exposure and MS risk.25,26 For clinicians the task is to evaluate existing neuroprotective treatments. Possible candidate agents for randomized trials in early MS are antioxidants such as coenzyme Q10,27 omega-3-essential fatty acids,28 minocyclin,29 and cannabinoids,30 alone or in combination."

HA! HA! HA!

I can say no more and a lot less.

I've been trialing three of the candidate agents suggestions for clinicians for a long time now...

Thanks Kelly..

I think they're right about the damn mice and I'm getting sick of them getting better while I'm not..

The other theory is just that...a theory and we've got lots of those.

Et voila!

My father's been preaching the benefits he finds in CoQ10 for ages. Not a shock seeing it mentioned on the list. Of course the fatty acids as well.

I wonder if 'cannabinoids' is speaking to the actual plant with various components included, or if it's referencing the synthetics too.

In any event, I don't see much on the list as a surprise that's for sure.

Whatever...medical science is in it's infancy where the brain and eyes are concerned in terms of it's understanding the functioning of these organs, as well as the various pathologies that affect them.
I get fatigued just trying to read the varieties of theories and research about MS. Doesn't seem to help me deal with the stupid disease any better
