Long time no see. Hope everyone is making it okay. I had to have an MRI this morning (not quite time for the yearly one that we agreed on last year, but I had a minor relapse a couple of months ago, and when I had my 6 month checkup last Thursday and talked to him about it, we agreed to go ahead and get a new one.). So here's the question....

It took me about 30 minutes to get home from the office, and by the time I got home, my head was hurting pretty bad, and I was pretty nauseous and thirsty. I took some Advil and got in bed. I think I slept for about 4 hours. Everything was better, but not completely gone. I still feel funky.

Has anyone else ever had this happen? Blech!

GAd Dye is excreted by the kidney. It is normally all gone in 24 hours.


The Less Serious Gadolinium Side Effects

There are several gadolinium side effects that can potentially affect anyone using this contrasting agent. These include:

- Lightheadedness
- Local Pain
- Low Blood Pressure
- Mild Headaches
- Nausea

One of the few things I've never had a reaction to. I'd definitely let your doc know about it. Sorry to hear that it threw you for a loop.

my biggest complaint with the dye is the sudden feeling like I have to pee and the nasty taste in my mouth - ick! Oh, and I get hot feeling all over.

Make sure you drink plenty of water the rest of the day after your MRIs. The more often you have to pee, the quicker you will flush the contrast through and out of your kidneys.

I have never had side effects from that dye and drove home after each MRI.

I was gonna say "I never have reactions". But this is about my normal, so how would I know if it was affecting me?




Sorry you felt so crummy. I wonder if it would help if you drank a bunch of water right before the scan? then hang around for 15-20 mins after for a couple potty breaks. That's my routine. Maybe that's why it doesn't seem to bother me. I'm a water drinker big time.

Hmmmm, I never drink water, so maybe that's why I had such a funky reaction this time. Gah, why is that water so blasted important?

its ultra important to hydrate. Esp since it is excreted by the kidneys. I usually get a mild headache, and need to lay down for a few hours after I get home. how much is ativan, and how much is GAD, who knows, but either way, I HATE MRI day.

Mine is coming on Monday.

It doesn't HAVE to be water, you know..I'll drink Gatorade or that VitaWater stuff they sell at WallyWorld. Tastes decent, gets the job done, and I don't feel like I'm drowning after I drink it..
