I've been having issues and weird symptoms for a little over a year. I'm in the process of getting a diagnosis (hopefully). I had a brain MRI to test for MS today. I'm 47 and thought I might be a little old for MS, but I guess you never know.

Lupus and Fibromyalgia have been suggested, and I've been dianosed with Peripheal Neuropathy and TOS. I have one symptom that doesn't fit with either Lupus or Fibromyalgia and was wondering if it could be MS

For approximately a half dozen times since the onset of my symptoms, I get this pain in my right hip area, and it is really painful to lift my leg as in marching. I have to lift my leg to get of a car or bed in the morning. I at first thought it was due to overexertion, but I know that is not the case now. It lasts for a few days and then as mysteriously as it appears, it disappears.

Other symptoms include:

extreme fatigue,
headaches that no amount of ibuprofen will get rid of,
joint pain,
muscle pain,
forgetfulness,
trouble concentrating,
mouth sores,
chest pain,
pain underneath the ribs
leg pains (mostly in calf area)
depression
eye sensitivity and pain in right eye
burning or electric like pain in arms and hands
increased sensitivity to touch
numbness in hands and feet

I don't have the tenderpoints for Fibro, but my symptoms are definitely worse just before and during my period.

Hi Sunny, Welcome to our side of the world.

It sounds like you have enough going against you. I sure hope you don't have to add MS to the mix..

Your Symptoms could be due to MS, but they could also be due to any number of neurological illnesses.

Please come back and let us know what your Neuro says and in the meantime, stretch those leg muscles. I find that if I can't lift my leg, it's because I have been in one position for too long and a little mild stretching helps a lot.

I hope this doesn't offend you, but when I saw the title of your post, the first image that popped into my head was of a dog lifting his leg to pee........

I can definately relate to your leg problem, though! I've had similar problems both from MS and from sciatica. Hope you find out what's causing this.

msarkie made me spit coffee. Hope you get answers soon. I was 46 when DXed with MS, so guess it's never too late. Wish you the least and easiest of whatever.

I was mid forties when I got my Dx. your NOT too old, so dont take BS from MDs who want to shove you out their door.

That said...there are more than 100 diseases than can mimic MS symptoms. Getting an MS diagnosis, is the process of ruling out as many other the other ones as possible through blood tests, MRIs, spinal taps, and so forth, before you are left with a probably hand ful of 5 or so, and then the MD will pick which is more likely based on your history and symptoms. Its a process that can make you wanna pull your hair out, and feel like they just dont get it.

I had been having sx (symptoms) for years, and kept getting dismissed as "migraines" or "anxiety" or "viral" and no one could explain why my C reactive protein test was off the chart and rising. Why my inflammatory markers were soaring. Why I had dropped foot, and even my Optic neuritis was explained away as "migraine" or "viral" by the way Optic neuritis is a hall mark sign on MS. After going to an MS clinic the MD there was shocked that so many had walked by such clear cut signs, and I was diagnosed without a spinal tap, at 45. One MD actually told me I was too old to have MS. I said "not if I have had it for years, and everyone has missed it!" he didnt have an answer for that.

Msarkie, if I was a dog who had to lift his leg to pee, I would be dribbling down my opposite leg. What a picture!!

Sunnydee, I have the same problem. I can barely lift my right leg. This has been going on now for a couple of months, never getting any better. Luckily, I've got a neuro appt next week.

You do have a lot going on. I do hope it doesn't turn out that you have MS. But if it is, join the crowd...it's a good one!
