I woke up with blurred vision today.

I've had optic neuritis many times and all but one episode was preceded by sharp eye pain. If this is optic neuritis again, there's been no pain in that eye at all. Also, my vision was more blurred than this in the past, so much so that I couldn't even watch TV. I tried enlarging the font on my computer but I still couldn't read the print, so have had to revert to the eye patch. The ultimate, rather cute, fashion statement (not) .

My question is, have any of you had optic neuritis with only mild blurring, or with blurring that progressed over a few days?

Naturally it's Saturday where I live and I have no access to a Neuro for the next 48 hours.

Before I had my first big exacerbation, a bout of optic neuritis in 2006 (and before I had any clue that I had MS) I had a few days where I'd wake up and my vision would be blurred. No pain, just blurry vision that would either go away in a few hours, or it would stick around for a little over a day or two and then go away.

I told my eye doctor about that once, and he told me it was probably whatever lesion it was that was responsible for the ON in 2006 in it's early stages.

Weird thing was, that once, the blurriness was in the other eye and not the eye that ended up getting optic neuritis.

Last summer, I did have a month or so of dim vision in the eye that had had ON, but I also had some dimness in the other eye, so whatever is causing my near yearly vision problems must be close to the nerve for the other eye.

I have had O.N. with ice pick stabs and some without pain. I usually have loss (blurry) of my central vision, with a scotoma (sp?). I view a big yellow circle, and the vision is blurry inside the circle.

One time it stayed the same and got better after two weeks, and just when I thought it was gone, it came back for 12 more days. Under doctor care though.

Other times, I have had the same central vision loss, but yes only milder, (yellow is blanched) then it goes away in a week or two. I don't think mine is as bad as some people get, because the eye doctor and Neuro said no steroids.

I always need a doctor's advice on a Friday or Saturday too, it never fails. I would have it checked, as soon as possible on Monday, even if slight blurring occurs.

Unless you usually go to the ER in your country for these things, perhaps you can wait until Monday. If it worsens, than get to the ER.

Some people get total vision loss in the O.N. eye. I don't. Do you?

Never fool around with your eyes or your mobility, if there is a change. Go see or call your doctor. I hope your eye gets better soon. Good luck to you.
